Rememberance of Things Past

One of the things we tend to do as human beings at times, is forget too easily. Compare two people and their memories of the same experience and you will soon see how different they are, because we forget. We can do the same with forget, we forget too easily. When we are undergoing a difficult situation, we need to remember how God has helped us and delivered us in the past. Past experience of God builds our trust and encouragement and hope for the future. It was David’s past experience of God and God’s faithfulness and deliverance that enabled … Continue reading

Children’s Journals

After Miriam’s great blog entry on journal writing, I’d like to take the next step and challenge everyone to encourage their children’s self-expression. Think your kids are too young? Hence the challenge! Last summer, while my kids were 5, 3 and a half, and 18 months, I decided that my older two were ready to create a journal of their very own. My daughter had just started reading and writing, and both kids love to color. Since I also homeschool, I thought a journal would not only be an excellent way to teach the kids young to follow the counsel … Continue reading

SnapChat Might Trigger Body Dysmorphic Disorder

Parents might want to have a conversation with their teens and tweens who use SnapChat or Facetune. A Viewpoint published on JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery warns that apps that enable users to alter their selfies into something prettier can trigger body dysmorphic disorder in some people. The Viewpoint was written by Susruthi Rajanala, BA; Mayra B. C. Mayome, MD; and Neelam A. Vashi, MD. They point out a change in patients who seek plastic surgery. “Previously, patients would bring images of celebrities to their consultations to emulate their attractive features. A new phenomenon, dubbed “Snapchat dysmorphia,” has patients seeking out … Continue reading

Nebraska Bill Would Require Governor to Use Exchange

The Governor of Nebraska, Dave Heineman, decided that Nebraska would opt for a federally run health insurance exchange. Senator Jeremy Nordquist has introduced a bill that would require the governor, and other lawmakers, to use that exchange to acquire health insurance coverage. Part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, (which is also known as the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare), requires every state to have a health insurance exchange. The purpose of the exchanges is to enable individuals and small businesses to easily find affordable health insurance. There were three different options that a state could choose for … Continue reading

Legacy.com Offers Online Memorials For Your Loved Ones

Memorials take many forms. There is a growing trend to create online memorials for family members who have passed away. I was reminded of this when I received a somewhat confusing email a few moments ago. Today, many of us live our lives online. We write blogs and journals, create audio content, and post photographs of subjects that are important to us. We share these little pieces of ourselves through social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, or Google +. This content will remain online after we have passed on, (unless someone actively removes it). Traditionally, genealogists would attempt to … Continue reading

Working Out: Bad for your heart?

I am not a runner. I never have been and I never plan to be one. However, it is one of those fitness endeavors that I always wanted to do. Runners look so healthy and fit. They seem superior to the less fit humans on the planet somehow. A person who can run fast or long distances is impressive and admired. My husband was a runner and he still loves to watch track. I do not see the draw to watching track. Just sitting there watching someone run around is not entertaining to me. Yet, I longed to be someone … Continue reading

Our Family Tree

I’ve never been very good at genealogy. I’ve always been interested in it and love learning about my ancestors and the trials they went through and the people they were, but there are enough divorces in the mix that it makes mapping out the family tree a little challenging at times. It’s hard to keep track of what goes where and who belongs with whom, all in all it’s kind of a mess. Luckily, I have parents and grandparents who have passed down their stories for us. Many of them have kept active journals of their lives. It is fascinating … Continue reading

Tea Recipes to Aid in Weight Loss

Tea alone cannot get you to your goal weight. Many insist that tea is a powerful aid in health and well being and that includes the aiding in weight loss. It is said that drinking 3 to 5 cups of green tea a day will help you burn an extra 70 calories a day due to thermogenisis. Obviously that is not enough to reach your goal weight but it may be a nice extra kick and green tea has health benefits to boot. Tea if left unsweetened has no calories and can keep you hydrated in a tasty way. We … Continue reading
