I'm back!

I've been back from vacation for over a week now but I sure am having a tough time getting back to work! I'm back now and you should see some blogs posted starting today.

My family had a great vacation. We spent the week in Chicago. My husband is a doctor and usually our vacations involve Continuing Medical Education. (CME) He spends half the day taking classes and then he joins the rest of us. It's a nice way to take a cheap vacation, but he doesn't really get to relax. This vacation was pure fun and relaxation  for all of us. We needed it desperately!

I was surprised at what a family-friendly city Chicago is. We spent quite a bit of time at the Navy Pier. There is an awesome Children's museum there. Thursday night is family night at the Pier and entrance to the museum was free. My kids especially enjoyed the imaginative play area. There is an ice cream stand where the kids can make pretend ice cream cones and there is a pizza parlor. At the pizza parlor the kids can load their crust with toppings, stick it in the brick oven, put the pizza in a box and deliver it to mom and dad. My kids could have stayed there all day! Next we went to the "Your museum" section. Here kids can use markers and paints to tell their story. This is a bright and fun area. My kids were covered in flourescent marker by the time we left, but they had a blast. There was an African dancing class going on. I enjoyed watching this and I learned a few new moves. There was more to see at the museum, but we were anxious to get outside to the rides.

The Navy Pier rides are half off on Thursday nights. We rode the carousel and my husband took a couple of the kids on the giant ferris wheel. We ended the evening by buying a pound of fudge and walking through the giant indoor garden before heading back to our condo. It  was a fun night.

While in Chicago we went to see the Tut exhibit at the Field Museum. It was amazing! I heard some people express disappointment because Tut wasn't there. My husband read that when the exhibit did a world tour thirty years ago, Tut's tomb got a crack in it. The Egyptian government was really upset and they made a law that Tut cannot leave Egypt. However there were several relics that were found with him on display. There were many artifacts from his relatives, including his great grandmother's tomb. It amazed me to thing that these items were thousands of years old and yet, still so beautiful.

There's more to tell about our trip, but I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm losing steam here. I'll tell more later!

Cristina, Welcome back! Glad you had a great vacation. I know how hard it can be to get "back to work" after some much needed time off. I was able to see Tut's exhibit in EGYPT! Of course that was a whole lot of years ago but I still remember it and it was amazing. I had heard the same thing you heard about the crack and they got angry. I guess it's just safer that way. Have a great week!
