My daughter's birth mom relinquished rather than go through the termination process. It was a week or two away anyway. We have an open adoption now and see her often. It indeed was heartwrenching. Suprisingly, she is parenting her next child, only two years later, with a lot of love and stability. We thought we might get to adopt this child, but bmom is doing great!

Humm, Touchy subject. In foster care reunification is the norm.. At least to push for it. I don't think caseworkers are allowed to talk about relinquishment. ........For those who weren't scared off after the weeks of training... I had to laugh when I read this. I'm sure they try to scare us all off before licensing. the horror stories from other foster parents were the worst!

I think you are giving good advice to be aware there will be some issues, even if adopting at birth. We've started discussion adoption, even at our early stage. Our daughter is 2. I want to try to make it, not a big deal, but a subject that is ok to talk about. Thanks for your blog.
