I have found that in smaller wards there are even more opportunities to serve. Small wards and branches quickly become almost like families. It is a wonderful atmosphere to be in.

Primary Time: Challenge Your Child to Have Personal Scripture Study - Blog Entry

My daughter loves her Book of Mormon as well. She got it last year at Christmas, since she asked for it, how could we say no? We opted to only get her the Book of Mormon because she couldn't lift the bag for the Bible and Book of Mormon. We will likely get her a Bible next year. She is so good at asking us to read to her from the scriptures.

Helping Lateral Entry Teachers Be Successful - Blog Entry

I really admire that both you and your husband were able to successfully enter the teaching the field without prior training. It does sound like you knew what you were getting into, and that really does make a great difference. I really appreciate your insights!

Thanks for your comments. Overall I have to agree with most of the points that you have made. I think that these teachers have no idea what they are getting into. I truly believe that if the school districts were to set up the programs I mentioned so that they actually functioned it would make a huge difference. While I was working as a teacher, there was one teacher who all she did all day long was mentor the new teachers (both first year teachers and alt cert teachers), I think it truly made a difference in how the teachers adjusted to their positions.

I do agree that more often than not not it is just a show, not an actual program. The teachers and the students suffer as a result. Where I live the principals have direct say over who they hire, so it is different in different areas. I do worry about alternative certification programs. I learned so much in my education classes that helped me when I started teaching. The practical behind the scenes, how to make it work stuff, that I can't imagine anyone just being thrown into it.

Thanks for your comments.

Food Storage: Milk - Blog Entry

It is important to provide your children with the right nutrients. I haven't worried a lot about the milk my children get, because they will only eat it on their cereal. We find alternatives to have them eat dairy and fat. They both love cheese though! I think that the evaporated milk option may be more expensive, but it is worth it.

Blockbuster Online Announces Total Access - Blog Entry

We just switched from Netflix to Blockbuster for this deal. Really the free game rental is what did it for my dh. He couldn't stand the idea of paying eight dollars to rent a game. So he wasn't renting just buying. This will save us money, and give him variety. He also really likes the idea of the immediate trade in. I just hope that the documentary selection is as good.

To Circumcise or Not? - Blog Entry

I know that throughout the world that most males are not circumcised, but I have to say that the number of 70 percent seems pretty high to me, considering that I personally do not know anyone that has chosen not to have their boys circumcised. I know that the decision to not is becoming more popular, but those numbers do seem high to me.
