It is great that you are debt free except for the house, that means you can save more than most. Once you have your house paid off then you can really start pouring money into retirement. Not having a car payment helped me to be able to stay home with my kids. It is funny because we have two older cars, one has needed work every year. The other older car hasn't--it is the one we will replace when we get the minivan. Not having a car payment is a great thing, and most people never want to go back. It is interesting, because I just assumed all the wards did the same. Moving and moving up may be difficult for awhile. But it will be fine. Kids really are resilient. So you can point that out to your doctor if you ever have to deal with it. Years and years ago my great grandmother was told to drink coffee every morning to help with her bad stomach. Now we know that isn't such a great idea. I say go with what the Lord has said, and He won't lead you the wrong way. Most doctors agree with the health principles that the Word of Wisdom provides for. Space is often an issue when it comes to food storage. The easiest solution is to save the money that you would use to purchase food storage to purchase food in an emergency. We will have our third this January, but we have one December birthday, one January birthday and Christmas in between. My parents contribution was one hundred dollars a month. I covered everything else from living expenses to tuition. I actually graduated debt free and with a bit of savings. I know that my in-laws are saving money for my kids, but it is not expected of them. It really is a personal decision for each family. I have seen it work out well, and the kids have adjusted to being on their own right after college. I have also seen the perpetual student who is married with kids and is still getting help. I really don't think anyone is benefiting from that.
