Happy Birthday, Mom! - Blog Entry

16 Nov 2006 09:56 PM

That was a very touching message to your mom, Tristi. I hope she got it OK and that she appreciates you as a daughter too. By the way, she must be very creative to have come up with your name! And, I'm sure, is a smart and sensitive person to have raised a daughter who so obviously has those traits. I think her choices in reading material is very telling also. She must have lot of different interests and be open to many different cultures and peoples. If you got your looks from her she must be very pretty too. Happy birthday to Tristi's mom!!!

Mother Knows Best: Why I Homeschool, Part Two - Blog Entry

Thank you for echoing my feelings, tho a bit more diplomatically than I would. I grew so filled with concern about what was happening to my children emotionally, that I brought them home to school. That was a long time ago, when it was looked upon as subversive at best. All of my children have grown stronger as personalities while learning to respect other's right to choose. I am very glad that I made that decision. I'm sure that the benefits are and will continue to be tremendous far into the future, as they teach their own children at home, and the grandkids build on the foundation laid by their parents.

I, too, appreciate this author. She has taught me many interesting and worthwhile things about our history. We need to know who came before and give them the trubute they deserve for the sacrifices they made so that we could enjoy the greatest land on earth.

The Parents' Example - Blog Entry

Thank you for the reminder that we teach so much by example. Sometimes they just can't hear what we say because wat we do so speaking so loudly. I wish that was original to me. But truth is truth. Also a reminder to write down the funny things our children say, because you really won't remember them, and many are priceless.

My Grandma's Bookshelves - Blog Entry

What a wonderful tribute to your grandmother. As parents, we try to impress our values on our offspring, but it's not always apparent that we're making any headway. Thank you for showing that our efforts can bear much fruit.

I have read this book, and found it informative and very interesting. Ann has a way of expressing herself that can be understood by younger readers, and so reaches a larger readership. I made me want to visit Monticello even more than I already did.

I agree that books are one of the best investments one can make to enrich the atmosphere of your homes. Choosing the best in reading material for the family to browse in when there is leisure time is a service to the entire family, and will be appreciated by them forever. Children who grow up with good reading in their homes will continue the tradition, and a new generation will benefit.
