Hubby is from Egypt, another "no shoes inside" country. Many Egyptians wear "ship ships" inside, which are basically house shoes or even flip flops. It did take some getting used to, but I think it is much more hygenic. Parenting Predicament: Kissing and Your Preschooler - Blog Entry20 Sep 2006 07:36 PM Brandie, I think many people are uncomfortable with children kissing adults on the mouth. I know I am. I am very affectionate-- lots of hugs, kisses, squeezes, pats, etc-- but I do not like kids to kiss on the mouth. Maybe because it is too easy for lines to inadvertently get crossed, I don't know. But I think it is a very personal decision, and there is no one right answer. The Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 11-"I Told Ya So" - Blog Entry16 Sep 2006 11:09 PM That's what I was thinking, Kristyn! There is no way on earth I would be able to lose weight while writing about yummy, delectable munchies!!! And Catherine is so good at it-- I get hungry just reading her descriptions of food! Websites for Writers: Deborah Ng's Job Leads - Blog Entry14 Sep 2006 09:34 PM I would definitely recommend LTK. The people there are great. Aside from Families.com ;), LTK is the best place I've ever worked. If you are reliable and fairly professional, they offer plenty of opportunity for growth. Even if you are hired for one specific site, you can reasonably expect to end up writing or editing for others. For example, I started out writing articles for one site, then I was promoted to site editor, and now I'm a group editor. It is truly a wonderful company. Websites for Writers: Deborah Ng's Job Leads - Blog Entry14 Sep 2006 04:05 PM Yes, Deb's blog is great. That's where I found one of my best writing gigs-- LoveToKnow. Finally! Some Common Sense in the Use of Antibiotics - Blog Entry13 Sep 2006 09:28 AM I completely agree with you! As for the fevers, that is the body's natural way of fighting off infections-- why suppress that? And I have a real fear of antibiotics. It seems that some doctors pass them out without a thought, without even knowing what they are trying to treat. That, in my opinion, is dangerous, dangerous medicine. What happens in a few years when everyone has developed immunities to the drugs? We die from a relatively harmless illness? Call me overly dramatic, but that is my fear. So, no, we do not request antibiotics. We use caution in taking prescribed ones. We give fevers a chance to do their jobs, and only treat them when they get too high or the kid is too uncomfortable and unable to rest. My Muslim Friend - Blog Entry12 Sep 2006 12:48 PM Melissa, thank you for such a beautiful and eloquent post. It means the world to me. You are right-- honest, respectful religious dialogue is so very important, especially in these trying times. I am so happy to learn that the Muslim blog had a positive impact on you. It was never my intention to convert anyone; I simply wanted to educate and dispel myths. If even one person learned something, I accomplished that goal. Thank you so much for sharing. Homosexual Agenda Being Promoted In Schools - Blog Entry08 Sep 2006 02:10 PM Diane, I can't speak for everyone here, but I, for one, am not suggesting that the achievements of homosexuals be kept out of history books!!! No one's achievements should be undermined. I simply don't want my children taught about anyone's sex life. I mean, does a history book really need to discuss sexuality in any form? I think not. And, whether homosexuality is a deviant behavior or a genetic predisposition is irrelevant to me. I think parents are the ones who should decide when and what to teach kids about sex. Diary of an Overweight MOM: My Story - Blog Entry07 Sep 2006 08:45 PM This is great, Catherine! Good luck! I, too, would like to lose about 50 pounds. I'll join you. I'm getting in a little late, but better late than never, right? And this is irrelevant, but, extra weight or not, I think you are beautiful! Islam and the Non-Muslim Wife - Blog Entry07 Sep 2006 05:41 PM eidasevol, I'm glad you found it, too! Hopefully it will be a jumping off point for some quality conversation. Yes, technically it IS against his religion to marry you. Of course, I don't know him and I can't speak for his faith. BUT, some people make decisions based on the heart, and later their mind regrets it. I would hate for either of you to end up in that situation. And, as I mentioned, some men become more religious after marriage and kids. When that happens upexpectantly, it is a rude awakening for everyone involved. Whatever you decide, make sure you are both going in with open eyes. Best of luck. |
