19 Dec 2007 11:05 AM First RE VisitWe finished up our 2nd miscarriage (3rd pregnancy loss in a row) last week and had our first visit with a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) today. I feel so hopeful! She was very sweet and informative. She said that because my first pregnancy was a cornual ectopic, she is concerned that there might be a bit of scarring or left over tissue that is blocking a tube. She says there's no proof that the last 2 pregnancies I've had WEREN'T in a blocked tube and aborted themselves. (This whole idea freaks me out!) So she wants to do the HSG test after I have my next period (the test where they open the cervix and put dye in the uterus...then xray to view the tubes and the uterus. She wants to see if my tubes are ok and if my uterus has any abnormalities inside of it/is oddly shaped. Despite having several ultrasounds before, she still wants to do this. She says ultrasounds can only see so much. And, my uterus isn't "inflated" during the ultrasound so it's hard to see the exact shape. So I guess that is 7 days or more after the first day of my period but before I ovulate. Then, they will check my progestrone at ovulation to make sure that looks ok. In the meantime they took 10 vials of blood to test for chromosomal issues, antibodies, and clotting disorders. (won't really know those results for another 2 weeks or so...and they won't tell me anything if it's not a major problem) So, it looks like we'll have more answers by the time Valentine's Day rolls around and all the testing is complete enough to paint a picture of what's going on or not. I feel good knowing that there are ways to find answers and hope and am very excited to try again! Now, I just have to wait for my next period to come (whenever the heck that is) and hope for the best! I'm a little scared of what they will find. But I also know that whatever happens it's a step closer to having a baby! Just wanted to share my experience for anyone else out there going through a similar thing. Be well! allison |
