i couldn't really locate a good spot for this pots- we just experienced a great family day in orlando at Holy Land park. we wen to see mickey and did that for a few days. we had a half day availabel and took a chance on visiting this Bible based attraction. it was great! my 4 yr old and 7 year old loved it. they had a presentation of taberncale used in wilderness, sclaed version of temple from solomons time and a very nice tour of bible artifacts and history in scriptorium. the staff dressed and spoke in charachter, and the roman centurians were great. we were delighted and i am very glad we tried this spot.

we just attended the ICE show at Gaylord Palms. a bit pricey but very worthwhile and unique. our family is from the south so our kids don't get to see snow much less huge ice scupltures or ice slides. they were thrilled. the 9 degree temps caused us to depart after about a half hour. the only negative i have is that after 425 per adult and $10 per child for admission, they hit us up for $12 parking on the way out. that was really odd because the parking lot was not marked as a paid lot. very misleading. otherwise, we enjoyed the beautiful exhibit and event.

New Passport Guidelines and Castaway Cay - Blog Entry

our day at castaway cay was the best day on our trip. the BBQ food was wonderful: ribs and island chicken. not spicy, just right for me and the kids. the beach was a little rocky with as many pebbles as sand; but the clear blue and emarald water more than made up for that. the hammocks and the beach chairs are plentiful and our was under a palm tree. delightful. the characheters were available back on the path for our 4 year old to enjoy and our 7 year old tried snorkleing for the first time. the day was perfection.

Spending Your Holidays on a Disney Cruise - Blog Entry

27 Nov 2007 01:58 PM

we just cruised with disney on thanksgiving, 2007. it was a great experience. my children are young (4 and 7) and got far more out of the experience than a single traditional celebration at home woudl have yeilded. it turned out that Thanksgiving week was the best time to get the whole family to go and our shared experience was wonderful. disney has extremely nice ships (we sailed on wonder), better than the other ships we've sailed with carnival before. disney also understands how to do children: our kids had far more options than time to do it all. the shows were especially good, far beyond my expectations. each show held their full attention for 1;15 hours after dinner each night. the day at castaway cay was the highlight. my only dig would be that the food was OK, not special and that the children menu was merely park food like hamburgers, mac and cheese and hot dogs. my kids eat veggies so i was a little disappointed that we didn't get wow'd with a cool kids menu. that is no big deal in light of everyhting else that was so well doen and a crew that is expertly trained to entertain children. it was a thrill and we'd like to go again.

Adoption Fundraising - Part 2 - Blog Entry

ditto on the garage sale idea. it had three distinct benefits for us: a] we raised about $14,000 in one day. really. read on. b] our whole church, neighborhood and half the town it seemed got involved. many people came forward to donate a few items. all told, we needed four garages and several driveways/yards to hold it all. we pre-arranged with a local thift shop to come to pick up any remians at the end of the day and they were equally thrilled. we had a nice deposit to make and virtually no clean up or left overs at the end of the day. c] the best part of the garage sale process was communication. this event gave everyone a focal point and allowed them to support us by dropping off items. when they didn't know 'waht to say' about the adoption, they could focus upon the items they were donating. gathering items also gave them time to gather their thougths and comments or questions. it prepared them for a better level of conversation once they arrived at our house to drop oiff in the weeks leading up to the sales day. moreover, lots of oflks came forward to tell us that they were adopted as chidlren. wow. i had no idea how many of our fireds and co-workers had themselves been adopted or had an adopted sibling in their home. the experience as very cool as well as successful.

Adjusting to the Silent Wait - Blog Entry

27 Nov 2007 01:01 PM

people are weird...or at least, unprepared for discussing the adoption process. this is especially true of the waiting period. most folks just wish to encourgae and engage in firendly discussion...but they have no idea of the details or reference points for chit chat. the results are usually awkward for both parties and sometimes painful for the expectant parent. bear with them, they know not what they say. this time will be replaced by the child in due course. we've adopted twice and really struggled with the waiting period the first time. afterwards, we realized that the timing and the control were not in our hands. we ended up with the "right" children and that's all that really matters. the inconvenient conversations are now long past. the wait can have a wonderful reward...just not something that can be rushed or controled or predicted as a due date.

Setting Limits for Infertility Treatments - Blog Entry

27 Nov 2007 12:52 PM

we did this....and it was a good thing. actually, we set aside a sizeable sum of cash in a special account and vowed that if the moeny ran out, we would proceed to another option or path. it did. the process was painful, stressful and extremely difficult in temrs of deciding when and where to say "no". having this self-imposed limit was a saving grace. for us, we moved on to adoption and now have adopted two. we have a beautiful, wonderful family and have enjoyed peace and happiness since the infertility days. those were really our only dark time. glad to know that modern science works for some- but very glad we were finally willing to move to another option that worked for us. we've given it little thought since then and have no regrets for having tried it.
