We just returned from Disneyland with our ASD child and they were WONDERFUL about the special needs pass or "guest assistance pass" as it's called. It says right on the card that it's not intended to provide immediate access to the rides, but it really does. However, some of the cast members aren't always informed and they put you in the "wheelchair line" which can be LONG. If that happens, just find another cast member and tell him/her that you have a "non physically disabled special needs pass" and they'll whisk you right through to the front of the line. The escort is nice. Disneyland rocks. Ear Infections - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly15 May 2006 06:30 PM You can also get Hylands Homeopathic Earache Tablets, I have them at home but haven't needed them yet....hopefully I'll never need them! I LOVE Hylands teething tablets, they are AWESOME! I'm all for natural remedies, some doctors prescribe antibiotics like water, when my first child was only 11 days old, an emergency room doc prescribed antibiotics because her ear was a little red. Stupid parent that I was gave them to her; it was NOT an ear infection. She had multiple infections until tubes were put in her ears but the couple of times I did NOT give her the prescribed antibiotics, the infection went away on it's own. So far, my second child has not had an ear infection but I'm definitely wary about antibiotics. Protect your Special Needs Child from Bullying13 May 2006 09:36 PM My daughter is 3 years old and autistic. I am SO WORRIED about putting her in public school formany reasons, including bullying. Thanks for the article. Friday Baby Laughs: The Spoon Wars13 May 2006 09:18 PM That made me laugh. My almost-one-year-old always grabs for the spoon so my solution is to always have 2 spoons: one for her to throw and one for me to feed her. And yes, she LOVES to squish food. She now gets mad when anyone tries to feed her, Miss Independent want to feed herself! The Family Bed - Part 2: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome01 May 2006 12:51 AM And yet so many babies sleep so much better on their tummies. Before my second daughter could roll over, I experimented with putting her on her tummy to sleep. I was so scared, I had her in bed right next to me and kept checking on her breathing because of course I heard how bad it was to let babies sleep that way (even though I did, as well as my brother and sister). I watched her sleep so peacefully, so from that night on, she slept next to me on her tummy. In the early months, when she would startle herself awake by flailing her arms and legs, she would be able to fall back asleep because she was on her tummy. Today she's 11 months old, and sleeps happily in her crib. Decorating Baby's Room - NOT What it Used to Be01 May 2006 12:43 AM I was all about the theme for the first baby. But I wanted Raggedy Ann and Andy and my husband wanted Paddington Bear. So we compromised and used both since the color schemes matched. However, that novely wore off with the second baby. And guess what, she doesn't care :) I figure we'll be spending enough money on her when she's old enough to ask for stuff! Bringing Baby Home - Now What?25 Apr 2006 05:33 AM And all those visiting relatives can clean your house while you bond with baby. They always seem to want to do stuff with the baby but I found it was waaaaay more helpful to have them go shopping and cook dinner so I could tend to the baby. When Diaper Rash Won't Go Away20 Apr 2006 12:23 AM How timely -- my second baby has diaper rash right now, and it was never this bad with my first. I didn't think of the wipes problem, we use unscented but I guess I'll be switching to a washcloth in warm water. But ick, we're going to have to do some serious laundry ;) What's in a Name?17 Apr 2006 11:04 PM And make sure you consider the initials of the child's name too! My best friend plans to give her son the initials "TAR" and I'm TRYING to convince her to do otherwise. Of course it could be worse, you could name your child Zachary Ian Taylor or Ashley Samantha Simpson, check out those initials -- you get the picture ;) |
