Dangers in the Party Scene

The Christmas party scene can be fraught with dangers if we are not careful. Yesterday I looked at, among other things, how alcohol loosen inhibitions and causes people to do things they might not normally It also presents the problem of who’s going to drive home afterwards. That can often be the cause of an argument. I’ve seen it happen. Either that or someone drives who is unfit to drive because their judgment is impaired by alcohol. As a young married woman said recently ‘I can understand why they warn people not to drink and drive. When I have a … Continue reading

You may have correctly diagnosed the problem but are taking the wrong things. Again, this is a situation where the problem might be getting worse instead of better. Homeschooling to save money

It seems that interest in homeschooling is growing as families with children in private schools began to make budget wise decisions. For parents who chose private over public schools for academic, religious, and safety reasons, lack of money is not enough reasons to re-enroll children into public school. It seems that homeschooling may be the only option. Of course there is the problem that many of these parents see themselves as teachers, or ever planned on teaching their kids themselves. Fortunately there are many hybrid homescchool programs that will partner with parents that can help them homeschool their kids with … Continue reading

Balance Your Checkbook and Save Money

You can save money by balancing your checkbook every month and keeping a running total. The report speaks out against what it calls unfair banking practices that can cause the customers to accumulate more fees. Important Lessons on Money

Becoming a single parent usually means the purse strings are tightened. That does not mean you cannot enjoy wonderful things in life but going from a two to one-income family does present some challenges. Unfortunately, children think mom and dad are made out of money. Smaller children have no concept of what money is or where it comes from, just that if they want something, they beg mom or dad for it. According to some of the country’s leading child experts, a child should be taught the value of money as early as age three. In fact, these experts say … Continue reading

Teaching your Child about Money

Although finances are often tight for any family, even those with dual incomes or both mom and dad in the home, for the single parent, budgets can be challenging. It is important that you teach your child about money, helping him or her grow up with an appreciation for where money comes from, how it is spent, and budgeting. The Dangers of a Home Equity Loan or Second Mortgage

If you are considering taking out a home equity loan or a second mortgage you need to proceed with caution. You are taking an asset and basically cashing out the value you actually hold in the asset. Many people consider doing this in order to pay off debt, finance education, remodel their homes, or for other various reasons. If you are considering doing this so that you can pay off already existing debt, then you need to realize that the majority of people who do this end up with the same amount of credit card and other debt within two … Continue reading

Dangers in an Older Home

While some people prefer to buy or build a new home, other people are drawn to the older home. Typically, older homes have a certain charm and beautiful characteristics that you cannot find with new homes. However, while older homes such as a “craftsman cottage” or “Victorian two-story” may be incredible architecturally, they might also have hidden problems that could cause significant problems, not to mention money. For starters, many older homes were built using asbestos. In addition to being used for insulation in the attic, even homes from the early 1970s used asbestos in popcorn ceilings. The problem with … Continue reading

Idaho Lawmaker Introduced Free-Range Parenting Bill

Those of us who are part of Generation X remember walking to and from school, and riding a bike around the neighborhood, by ourselves. Today, some parents want to raise their kids the way they were raised – with plenty of freedom to explore and make their own decisions. Unfortunately, this can get parents into legal trouble when other parents report them for neglect. Representative Ron Nate, an Idaho State Republican, has written a bill that would protect parents who want to give their children less supervision. It is called the Reasonable Childhood Independence Act. “The intent of this is … Continue reading
