Muslims Worship in LDS Church

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we should be the most tolerant people in the world. We know what it means to be like Christ. He loved everyone, no matter what their background. They were sinners, adulterers, haters, murderers, and He loved them. He loved those and forgave those that crucified Him. So, we have that perfect example. Why don’t we reach out more? Why don’t we take the time as LDS members of the church to get to know those people that are different than us. Serve them? One congregation in Missouri is setting … Continue reading

A Muslim Mommy and a Mormon Mommy

When I moved back to Utah last year, I was eager to make new friends. That is because when I left Georgia where I was living for two years, I left behind a great group of girlfriends that I still miss everyday. Yes, I can keep in touch with them via facebook and the blogs, and phone, but it is just not the same. My ward was an older, more established ward with not a lot of young Moms. It was hard connecting with those few young Moms there were in the ward because we were only living there temporarily. … Continue reading

Book Reviews: Books on Families

Two general books about families include adoptive, multi-racial and special-needs families that will be of interest to adoptive families. The photos in both will appeal to young children and the text will spark discussion for older children and their parents. Photographer Ann Morris ‘ trademark style is books with one theme, such as “Work”, “Hats”, “Carrying Babies”, and show pictures of people all around the world doing these things. The text is kept simple and the photos speak for themselves, although an index in the back provides a caption for each picture explaining what country it was taken in and … Continue reading

A recent government survey is revealing that homeschooling is becoming more and more popular. In fact, that last for years has seen a growth rate of 36 percent according to this article at Christianpost.com. Meanwhile, it appears that the ratio of Evangelical homeschooling to other homeschoolers is changing. U.S. News and World Report reports that As Homeschooling Surges, the Evangelical Share Drops. While a great deal of homeschoolers do so in order to give their child an education that does not preclude religion, the evangelical coup on homeschooling is losing its grip. As an evangelical Christian, I have to say … Continue reading

Setting Up Special Swimming Pools for Muslim Women

In New Zealand, there is a movement by South Island Muslims to open special swimming pool facilities for women only that would allow them to swim and engage in aquatic exercise without compromising their religious beliefs. They are citing the lack of specialized facilities with weight gain and becoming medically unfit. The creation of the new Burqini will offer Muslim women more options, but the idea of a special pool is backed by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand. Privacy and modesty are extremely important to the followers of Islam and because modesty forbids Muslim women from appearing … Continue reading

My Muslim Friend

The following was shared with permission by the addressee. Regardless of our faith, we are all human and made in God’s image. He loves each one of us. The Bible says that God is no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11). How are we to be lights in the lives of others if we cannot do so with respect for them? To My Muslim Friend, I’m so sorry to hear someone would be ignorant to call or associate you of all people with anything wicked! Your mission has been successful in dispelling myths. I thought that all Muslims hated Christians and … Continue reading

“Believing as Ourselves”: Important Book for Muslim Converts

I remember the joy I felt when I first became a Muslim. I felt truly happy and at peace, settled in a way I had never felt before. The best way to describe it is that I felt whole. I met all of the Muslim women I could, eager to make friends who shared my faith. I was living, breathing, eating, and sleeping Islam. Then, reality struck. I realized … Continue reading
