My husband and I took our twin boys out of third grade to ride our bikes around the USA and Mexico - which was an absolutely fabulous experience! But there were times when it was freezing cold and raining to beat all and we were pedaling against ferocious headwinds - that I felt I was the worst mom on the face of the earth!! Those were the times I felt I should probably have my kids in a safe and secure classroom back home. Obviously, the benefits of 'roadschooling' outweighed the disadvantages, because we are now getting ready to take off again - this time we'll pedal from Alaska to Argentina. We'll homeschool our boys through grades 5, 6, and 7 while on the road through the Americas!! We are really excited about taking off on our upcoming adventure - a family bike ride from Alaska to ARgentina - with Dash in a special basket on my bike!! I had to laugh at your comment about the seats getting smaller - I could swear that happens each and every time I board a plane!! I hope you have a grand time traveling with kids. I'm convinced traveling with kids is the best thing going - in fact we are now gearing up to take off to ride our bikes 20,000 miles from Alaska to Argentina with our 10-year-old twin boys!!(www.familyonbikes.org) I'm really looking forward to having all that time with our kids. time is too precious to waste!! I've spent way more hours on a plane with my kids than I care to think about - but I don't think I've ever seen a mouse on one of them! Fortunately, my boys are real troopers when it comes to random animals prowling around - a good thing considering that we travel the world on bicycles now. In fact, we are gearing up now for a 20,000 bicycle trip from Alaska to Argentina - I'm sure we will see our share of creepie crawlies along the way!
