NanoWriMo: Always Wanted to Write a Novel? - Blog Entry

25 Oct 2006 09:17 AM

I tried NaNo last year and MAN OH MAN it was a lot harder than I thought. If you can manage writing something like 1600 words every day, you can make the 50K. I made 25K, which I was pretty excited about, because it was more fiction than I'd written in a long time. Good luck to NaNo 2006!

As long as they all get along and as long as you have the space, I say the more the merrier! I have dreams of someday having a pack of dogs... but for now, two is enough!

Planning A Large Family Reunion - Blog Entry

In my grandmother's family, we take turns hosting the family reunion. We have a reunion every three years or so -- and every other time, it's in our neck of the woods (south Jersey) -- so we only have to worry about throwing the shindig once every six years. We try to keep it simple -- rent a pavilion at a local park, bring in vast amounts of catered food, and let everybody entertain themselves... though the last time it was here, a surprise thunderstorm closed down the park and we had to spontaneously move to my aunt and uncle's house. Makes for a good story, though! :D

Wow, Tristi! I can't imagine how hard it must be to avoid corn... you're right, it's in just about everything. I saw an interview recently with Michael Pollan, who wrote a book called "The Omnivore's Dilemma" which is about the problem of corn being everywhere. (Okay, he was interviewed on The Daily Show or maybe the Colbert Report, but it was still a very interesting interview that made me want to look for the book.)

Saving Money On Your Pets - Blog Entry

One drawback to using generic/store brand pet food is that while it may have some of the same ingredients of a more expensive brand, it may have more "fillers" -- which is how they save money on production. Look at the ingredients list: watch for things like "by-products", and make sure there are actual meats/protein sources listed in the first three ingredients.
