I'm Breaking Up with My Razor - Blog Entry

It seems like waxing is mainly dangerous for diabetics who suffer from neuropathy (loss of sensation) -- they can't feel whether or not the wax is too hot. Might be best for diabetics to check with the doc before attempting a wax, just to be safe!

Insect Repellent and Young Children - Blog Entry

If you want to go the natural route, another great insect repellant combo is eucalyptus and lemon. That is... if you don't find the scent of the eucalyptus unappealing! :) I've found it works REALLY well to send the bugs crawling in the opposite direction.

What Makes a Great Dog Park? - Blog Entry

26 May 2009 11:01 AM

I should clarify -- this is a normal (public) park with a special fenced-in area where dogs are allowed off-leash. Through the rest of the park, the dogs have to be on leashes.

U.S. Declares Swine Flu a Public Health Emergency - Blog Entry

I'd say "hoping to PREVENT a pandemic", actually. Personally, I'd rather see people well informed and able to protect themselves than unaware of what's going on and sick (and spreading disease to others).

I'm so glad it was useful, Cat! Hopefully the cortizone is easing your pain and the specialist will help solve the problem. Good luck!

Skin Toners - Blog Entry

03 Apr 2009 11:32 AM

Skin toners don't actually hide or cover up your skin, Ismail -- they're more like a final rinse for your skin. Well, except that many of them stay on the skin and don't get rinsed off like soap. Most of them are colorless and have the consistiency of water, so while you might smell them, you probably won't be able to see them.

I don't know much about vitiligo, so I can't offer any advice on what kind of cover-up or foundation you might want to try... sorry! A doctor or dermatologist might have some suggestions for you.

Two Legs, Two Wheels - Blog Entry

Thanks for solving my mystery, Lisa-Marie, and thanks for the detailed info about your site. I think it's really wonderful and amazing that pets are so very adaptable, and can take to a whole new way of moving so easily.

What If We Stopped Immunizations? - Blog Entry

23 Mar 2009 08:32 PM

May I suggest again that you post your questions in the forums -- there are lots of very active members there and you'll get a wide variety of opinions!

As for my opinion... I'm not a parent, but I'm very pro-immunization. Recent evidence has shown that there is not a link between vaccines and immunization, and I'm all for eradicating diseases like mumps, measles, polio, etc.

The Difference a Day Makes - Blog Entry

Generally, you can give 1 mg of Benadryl per 1lb of weight. Most of the Benadryl I've seen at the store is 25mg, so you may need a pill cutter to get an appropriate amount for your dog. The liquid version might be easier to work with, but it's also flavored (bubble gum, grape, cherry) and I don't know how much your dog would like it. My Lally is fussy enough as it is, so I've been stuffing the pills into bits of meatballs and she gobbles them that way! :)

Benadryl is an antihistamine -- which means it works against the things that cause allergy reactions in the body. It's generally safe for dogs and cats (and people!) who are having allergy problems.
