The Sinus Experiment: Day One - Blog Entry

24 Jun 2006 09:17 AM

I had sinus endoscopy when I was 19, Michelle, and it helped me go from having a sinus infection all the time to maybe getting an infection twice a year. Seems like almost every time I get sick, it goes straight to my sinuses.

Thanks for the good wishes, Andi and Michelle... hopefully I can fight this off before it gets too bad. If not... I get to visit my doctor the comedian. :)

Storing Comfort Foods - Blog Entry

23 Jun 2006 07:26 AM

Have you ever read "Alas, Babylon"? There's a scene where months after a nuclear attack destroys life as we know it, the survivors find a secret stash of chocolate and coffee and other comfort-type foods and throw a huge celebration. Sometimes the luxuries are just as important (emotionally) as the necessities.

Migraines and Magnesium - Blog Entry

21 Jun 2006 10:47 AM

Thanks for sharing your experiences with magnesium, Elizabeth - it's one thing to read about a study and another thing to hear the good news directly from a migraine sufferer. I'm really glad to hear it works for you! My mother has suffered from migraines pretty much since I was born, and I've seen the misery she goes through when she has one.

Do Dogs Watch Television? - Blog Entry

14 Jun 2006 06:29 AM

That's a funny coincidence, Christina - when I watch television, I do the same thing your dog does. I call it "watching TV with my eyes closed". :)

I have the same problem, Andi, I chew mine to stubs without even thinking. For me, only willpower can get me to stop... but I always fall back into the habit.

Watermelon Festivals (Coming To A City Near You) - Blog Entry

Melon bowling is definitely fun - we do it with pumpkins around Halloween and it's a blast, especially once the bowling "ball" starts to fall apart!

June 6, 06 - Just Another Day? - Blog Entry

06 Jun 2006 02:02 PM

I agree, Jamie - finding the patterns in things is a way of getting control or at least finding understanding, or trying to find meaning in a seemingly meaningless thing. In the case of September 11th, I think people were desperate to find connections to make the whole thing make sense. For me, that day will forever be one of the most frightening (and uncontrolled) days of my life.

Bye Bye Bathtubs! - Blog Entry

05 Jun 2006 08:26 AM

NOOOOOO! No more bathtubs?? I don't have a bathtub at home, and I look forward to a nice hotel room soak when I'm away. Say it ain't so!

Hotel Rooms-Smoking or Non-Smoking: The Choice Is No Longer Yours - Blog Entry

05 Jun 2006 08:24 AM

I'm glad to hear that more hotels are going smoke-free... I had the opposite experience on a recent business trip. The hotel I was staying at assigned me a smoking room and was unable to fulfill my request for a non-smoking room! (There were some big conventions in town the same week I was, and they were booked, which I can understand.) They did run some sort of ozone machine to clean the air, which I much appreciated, being highly allergic to cigarette smoke!
