I've seen this grading system in a few different places: a Dogster community I belong to, a pit bulls community on LiveJournal, and at www.petoftheday.com. Nobody seems to know the original source, it seems to be one of those things that is just getting passed around -- I also found a few rating systems put out by dog food makers... kind of biased! I don't know if this one came from a dog food maker or not. However, I felt it was important to share because it does make some important points about dog food and what's in your dog's food! The same way we should read labels on what we feed our families, we should know and understand what we're giving our pets, because we want them to be as healthy as possible. Means nothing in light of modern medicine? Means nothing in terms of a particular medical condition? I don't judge my health solely by the color of my snot, but I do find it to be a good indicator of what's going on up in my sinuses when I have other symptoms like the dreaded sinus headache. In other words, headache + clear mucus is probably not a cause for worry as much as headache + yellow or green stuff. They're not really going to come from an address like "fakeoutsite.com"... so how can you tell? And to stick up for instant messaging a little bit, if people are smart about using it, it's not OMG scary! It's another good way to keep in touch with friends and family. I'm a little concerned that by focusing only on the negatives, people might be scared away from using the services. I was lucky enough to grow out of my most important (to me) allergy -- dogs and cats!
