I should add another one -- bring your camera with you! You never know what you're going to see when you're walking... yesterday I spotted a HUGE carved bear in a neighbor's yard! (And yes, I did take a picture, thank goodnes for my camera phone!) :)

Your Marley sounds like my Lally! (We should have set up a playdate for them to exhaust each other!) Lally can chase her squeaky ball for hours in the yard, then keep bringing it to me to toss it down the hall once we're in! Feel free to share pictures... I'm a sucker for dog pictures!

Without getting too sciencey, "smelling flowers" activates certain chemicals in your brain that have beneficial effects on your whole body. Kind of like eating chocolate releases endorphins that make you feel happy.

Having lived in NJ, PA, and VT, it's amazing how different reactions to snow can be. Up in Vermont, the plows were out and working as soon as the first flakes fell... around NJ it seems like they wait to get started until AFTER the storm has passed. Then again, my brother lived in North Carolina for a few years and they had a freak storm and NOBODY knew what to do! They ended up having tractors out trying to plow the roads!

I had the same problem with my Lally and the excitement/submissive piddling... thank goodness that she's more confident now and doesn't squat EVERY time somebody comes to visit. Just some of the time. ;)
