You're absolutely right, MarylandCeliac. However, most of the folks I know with celiac refer to it as a gluten allergy or wheat allergy simply because it's easier to explain it that way to folks who don't know (like food service folks).

I've definitely noticed the fish at the cats-only boarding facility (aka "kitty TV") behaving differently when they're hungry and I'm approaching with the fish flakes. They swim up to the top of the tank, point their little fish faces at me, and waggle their fins. (I sometimes waggle my hands back at them before I feed them!) I figure that's fish-code for "HEY LADY WE'RE STARVING HERE!" :)
