Lyme Disease: Symptoms

25 May 2007 12:03 AM

According to a 2004 report by the CDC, about 80% of people in America with Lyme disease have the rash -- that's four out of five, or eight out of ten. Here's a link: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/lyme/ld_LymeDiseaseRashPhotos.htm

As for the earliest mention, we're both wrong: 1883 saw a German skin disease report related (possibly) to Lyme disease. 1909 was the first speculation that the rashes were related to tick bites, and that came out of the Swedish Society of Dermatology. That info comes from the Lyme Disease Foundation.

Just in Time for National Dog Bite Prevention Week 2007

Never be trusting -- that's a hard one for me, too. Just like you, I've been lucky when it comes to encountering strange dogs. Back in NJ, I can't even begin to count the number of times I called a strange, loose dog to me and held it until their owners showed up. Very lucky. Of course, maybe it's my biscuit-scented perfume that makes them like me? Heeheehee...

Earning Her Catnip: Tabby Gets a Job

Can I borrow Tabby for some shredding work? Oh Courtney, this made me laugh out loud when I read it!!

I Did It! I Trimmed Tabby's Nails!

04 May 2007 01:44 PM

Great job! The first time I trimmed my Lally's nails, I nicked the quick and sat there crying (because I was so upset) while she ran in circles around me and got blood on everything. Good to know I'm so calm and collected in a crisis, huh??

What Is Celiac Disease?

11 Apr 2007 04:06 PM

Thanks for sharing your experiences with celiac disease, Mom97. Unfortunately, the story of years of misdiagnosis doesn't seem to be a rare one -- a good friend of mine was only diagnosed five years ago and has had symptoms all his life (he's in his 30s). That cookbook sounds great, I'm going to go look for a copy for me (and one for my friend).

Are You Working Today?

I know the feeling, Kori -- I think a lot of people assume I'm home napping, reading romances and eating bonbons, or watching soaps when I say I'm working!

A Little Worm with Your Fish?

Ack! Gross! I would never recover from seeing worms in ANYTHING I bought. That would be the very last time that food entered my house, for sure. Blech. Ack! Yuck!

Sebaceous Cysts: What You Should Know

14 Feb 2007 11:36 AM

When I was in high school, I had some kind of cyst in my thigh. Pretty much at the crease of my leg by my groin, right along the panty line -- a very painful area! Now I wonder if it was a sebacious cyst. My doctor didn't remove the whole thing, though, he made an incision and inserted a kind of wick to let whatever was inside drain. Though I think I'm glad I didn't have to have stitches there... Thanks for sharing your experience!

Roady's Long, Strange Trip

Like you said, Lisa, the right dog found you. I just happened to point you in the right direction at the right time. And thanks for the picture caption -- I knew I forgot something!
