Pets and Cold Weather

21 Dec 2006 11:18 AM

Your poor silly dog, Kristyn! Does he have a favorite blanket or toy you could put in there to entice him in? I remember you saying the treats didn't work... if the weather were nicer, I might say that a favorite family member should sit outside with him for a while, just so he gets the feeling that it's okay to be outside and okay to be in the igloo. If it was me, I'd probably lay down near the igloo and try to get him to go inside... but then I'm a crazy girl who lays on the ground with her dogs. :D

Is It Ever Okay To Kick A Dog?

15 Dec 2006 09:51 AM

It's soooo upsetting when something like this happens. But if you don't have a bucket of water handy (or a cup of coffee, as my mom tossed on my brother's dogs once!), you need to try to shock the dogs out of their fight. And a kick can do it, at least long enough to get the dogs apart. My instinct is usually to wade in and try to separate the dogs, but I'm damn lucky I haven't been bitten more that way. But to keep kicking after the dogs are separated? That's just cruel.

Do You have Issues with Holiday Greetings?

06 Dec 2006 08:56 AM

Sometimes I think people overreact, and the "war on Christmas" seems like an overreaction to me! Not everyone celebrates Christmas, or believes in Christ. Christmas isn't the only December holiday. Does being the largest (which may be debatable) holiday make it the "right" one to celebrate? I don't think people who celebrate Christmas should be barred from wishing a Merry Christmas to others who celebrate Christmas... but I also think in public places (like stores) it's safer to say "Happy Holidays" to customers than to risk offending someone.

Just my two cents... I'd rather not offend anybody... so I make sure my holiday greetings to Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Pagan friends are holiday-neutral. I'm not interested in forcing my choice of holiday down anybody's throat.

Emmitt and Mario: Dancing Up a Storm

A friend of mine got a call from her mother last week in a panic: "Quick! Take this number and call in to vote for Mario so he doesn't get voted off the show!" Hahahahah!

Dealing With Urine Spraying

15 Nov 2006 08:58 AM

The ASPCA website had the suggestion about waiting on neutering until a cat reached 10 months. Only some cats continue to have a spraying problem after neutering; more often than not, neutering is a great solution to the problem.

NanoWriMo: Always Wanted to Write a Novel?

I tried NaNo last year and MAN OH MAN it was a lot harder than I thought. If you can manage writing something like 1600 words every day, you can make the 50K. I made 25K, which I was pretty excited about, because it was more fiction than I'd written in a long time. Good luck to NaNo 2006!

Are Two Cats Better Than One?

As long as they all get along and as long as you have the space, I say the more the merrier! I have dreams of someday having a pack of dogs... but for now, two is enough!
