Diabetic Neuropathy

27 Jul 2006 01:23 PM

Kay, thank you for your comments! I live with (and am one of the primary caretakers for) my grandmother, who is a diabetic with the beginnings of neuropathy in her feet... so her health issues tend to become ones that I have an interest in.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with neuropathy and also the nerve testing... it's hard to imagine what a test or condition might feel like unless you actually talk to someone who has gone through it! I will definitely keep your experiences with the biopsy in mind in case one of my grandmother's doctors suggests it.

The Princess Bride: Comedy, Romance and Adventure All Rolled into One

26 Jul 2006 05:40 PM

This is definitely one of my top five favorite movies of all time. My brother and I used to rent this one just about every time we went to the movie store (it was always The Princess Bride or Spaceballs)... and we still have most of the lines memorized! "A nice M-L-T... mutton, lettuce, and tomato, where the mutton is nice and lean..."

What Is A Retrosexual?

26 Jul 2006 08:10 AM

Oooh, Owen Wilson is incredibly appealing - maybe because he's not TOO perfect? I agree, the new Superman is amazingly gorgeous, but also incredibly untouchable. Somebody with flaws, like the "retrosexuals" make us common girls think maybe we'd have a shot at a superstar. ;)

"Jeopardy" Champ Slams Show

26 Jul 2006 08:08 AM

Sounds a little bit like he was *trying* to be funny and failing... but yeah, I'm gonna vote "cry for attention" on this one. The line about the robo-Trebek made me laugh, though...!

The Hair Cutting Disaster

24 Jul 2006 01:23 PM

Oh my gosh, Teresa! What a fun surprise. My brother and I never cut each other's hair but he did once cram a lipstick into his ear. And I love the logic of little kids... when I was younger, I used to think vampires lived in my parents' room and if I ran down the stairs they couldn't catch me. ;)

Celebrities and Their Stalkers

24 Jul 2006 01:20 PM

I think sometimes people are just so lonely... they become really attached to a character in a movie or a voice on the radio. They feel like this person is the only one who understands/cares/knows them. (There was one nutty listener who thought all the personalities were her best friends and showed up at the station on her birthday with a cake, expecting them to have a party with her.) Thank goodness I've never used my real name on the air... it was at least one safety barrier between me and listeners.

It's a lot harder, I'm sure, for big celebrities because they don't get much privacy sometimes. Almost everything they do is out in the open. Radio is a lot more private... most of your listeners don't even know what you look like! And are sometimes shocked when they find out, hahahah. You know that saying about "having a face for radio"? :)

Celebrities and Their Stalkers

24 Jul 2006 10:40 AM

Ugh... unless you've been stalked, it may be easy to laugh at somebody's weird obsession. I used to just think stalkers needed to get a life. But I used to work in radio and have had a truck driver show up at the station at 5:30 in the morning looking for me. I used to RUN from my car to the door. I used to bring my large dog to work with me. It was truly truly scary. The woman who mentored me through my first times on air was once held at knifepoint by a stalker. I think it needs MORE than a restraining order... living in fear is no way to live.

Do Not Instill a Love of Learning in Your Children

WOW, just wow. Tornados are about the scariest thing I can imagine...!

Love That Coffee - What Else Can I Do With It?

17 Jul 2006 04:15 PM

Awesome list, Nicole!! May I add one more use for coffee -- clearing your nose! If you've been smelling different perfumes and your nose is overloaded, a whiff of coffee can help your scent receptors reset and be ready to sniff again!

And a word of caution with mixing coffee grounds into your dirt or using them as fertilizer -- cats and dogs cannot process caffeine and may have health problems if they decide the coffee smells good and take a taste.

Spa Mishaps: The World's Worst Facial

17 Jul 2006 01:40 PM

Sinus draining? NO! I'll have to look into that... I'm perfectly willing to be a guinea pig when it comes to spa services. So if there's anything else you'd like me to try... I'm game. Hahahahaha... :)
