Why the Dogs and I Hate Tuesdays

06 May 2008 02:41 PM

Hahahahaha... it's pretty cool that you have a peacock for a pet! The honkathon... somewhat less cool. :) We don't have the garbage truck problem (thank goodness) ... but my dogs are weird. Lally (my boxer mix) is afraid of ceiling fans, of all things.

Humor Helps with Dementia Homecaring Duties

Another way we're alike - I name things too! After my sinus surgery, I had cute nicknames for all the doc's tools for post-op care... like "Mr. Picky" the really long tweezers and "Mr. Sucky" the snot-sucking nasal vacuum. :D

Ban Naked Popcorn Forever!

These sound SO good... just last week I sampled Magic Shell chocolate sauce on popcorn. It tasted good but was VERY messy. :)

Score Another Victory For The Great Sinus Experiment

Isn't it amazing how something so simple and common like salt water can be so helpful in preventing and treating infection? I've never tried a neti pot, but my squeeze bottle sinus rinse is a true nose-saver!!

The Day Miko Picked Me

Thanks, Courtney... we had such a short time together, but I value every second of it. (Except maybe his nervous stomach... and deadly gas!)

Vaccine Fact and Fiction

These studies were conducted by the CDC -- not by drug makers -- so I tend to trust these results and statistics. But I understand what you're saying -- a lot of research is sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies.

That's great, Sara!

Would You Know Your Dog?

21 Apr 2008 11:27 PM

At the cats-only boarding facility, I NEARLY gave the wrong cat to the wrong owner. She came to pick up a "Marley" and I nearly sent her home with a "Marney"... thank goodness the owner caught it before she left!! I was so embarassed!!

New Uses for Washcloths

19 Apr 2008 12:50 PM

Depending on how many you have (and how soft they are) you could make an entire throw blanket out of old washcloths! Though if they're kinda scratchy, maybe it'd be a better picnic blanket than a bed blanket. ;) Alas, I only have one washcloth in the house, myself.

Signs They Send After They're Gone

For the first few weeks after my Miko died, I would swear I heard him breathing right behind me. Scared me out of a nap a few times (you know that haze just as you're falling asleep?). I had a very hard time making the transition from Miko to Lally -- I went and got her just three days after Miko died and for a long time was angry that she wasn't as "good" as he was... of course, given time she's become an awesome dog in her own right!

And speaking of sending hellos, my dad is sure that his mother sends birds to say hello. The first one was I think the spring after she passed away, he was mowing the lawn and a bird came and sat on the fence and stared at him the whole time. :)
