When to Try Again After a Miscarriage - Blog Entry

Hi Pattie. My husband and I lost our first baby when i was exactly 7wks pregnant. That was 5 weeks ago. My m/c was 'ideal" ..no cramps, no pain, no prolonged bleeding (only 3 days ), my body passed the tissue on its own...and my hormone lvl went from 156 on the day of m/c to 11 3 days later.

It has been 5wks since my m/c and my cycle has not yet returned. I have been having little pains and in my lower abdomen, like period cramps...but nothing has started yet. When can i expect my cycle to return? My dr told me it would take just 3-5wks bc of how smooth my m/c was...but its past 5wks and no period. I dont want to test too soon and get false result, but i would like to know.

What should I do?

Hi Pattie. Although it takes a lot of women a while to get pregnant after stopping BC....it can happen right away. 3 of my close friends, and myself, all got pregnant within 2 months of stopping BC (after being on it for more than 6yrs) and each of us had miscarriages....mine was 7wks along and my friends varied from 6-10wks. The Dr told me that after you stop the pill it can take your ovaries a while to "wake up" in a sense, and that could have contributed to our miscarriages. I would advise any women to use a backup method of BC after stopping the pill, for a cycle or 2....just to be safe. I wouldnt wish a m/c on anyone, and if there are certain things we can do to help in somewhat preventing them, i say do it. :-)
