I am 33 weeks pregnant and “plan” on trying for a VBAC. My Doc says the only way she’ll really let me is if I go into labor on my own. (which I am fine with) I was just wondering what old wives tales has anyone heard, tried and used to successfully induce labor?

Having sex will induce labor or at the very least soften your cervix.

Hi, I used caster oil and 8 hours later my water broke! Just used the recommended dose and it seemed to work for me.. a friend told me about it and that it worked for her too. everyone is different but …… it did work. Melissa

LOL… it’s probably coincidence that I went into labor the next day after bowling, but maybe it helped move things along? LOL I dunno but it is a fun story to tell cause it is what actually happened…..

There are definitely a lot of the same old techniques that everyone hears about such as walking, having sex, castor oil, nipple stimulation. I don’t know if they work but I was lucky enough to have a doula who knew one of the best ways to induce labour and that was labor acupressure. It’s really relaxing and it really works to get things moving along. At least it did for me. And an added bonus is that it helps reduce the pain during childbirth.

We found labor acupressure was very helpful too. Simple and easy to do and a vast relief. I recommend it if you can find a Doula who knows the technique.

For my 1st pregnancy i was due nov 13, on Halloween i took my nephew out trick-or-treating by foot and no lie contractions started the next day Nov 1 my boyfriends mom whos very superstitious made me a cup of ginger tea (still traumatized by the taste) and take a bath wit salt jus a tub full of warm water and plain house salt this was all around 10-11 pm contractions got closer and then she made me sweep the floors (not sure if that was just cause she had forgot to lol) but i went into the hospital @ 1130PM was already 8cm went into labor 5am the 2nd it was a pretty quick labor to i always walked threw-out my whole pregnancy as well so im sure that all helped hope that helps… it also helps to listen to older folks they know alot:2thumbup:

Lots of physical activity. I’ve also heard many times that acupuncture can help.
