Some Kids With Autism May Not Understand Christmas

In general, kids who have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tend to have difficulty with social concepts. Many kids with an ASD can be extremely logical in their thought processes. Together, this can make it hard for them to understand the connections between Santa, Christ, and the Christmas traditions that most families participate in. Every year, there are a lot of little kids who are excited by the prospect of Santa coming to their house on Christmas Eve. Parents tell their children about Santa, and the youngest kids believe with all their hearts that Santa is real. When they get … Continue reading

Reflections on the Past Year

We are nearing the end of the year but before you start making plans for next year, you should spend some time reflecting on the past year. What have been the ups and downs of your home-based business this past year? What have been the good things and the bad things that have happened? The reason it’s important to think about these things is because you need a foundation to build upon, before you can enter the New Year. You don’t want to make some of the same mistakes you have already made. So by recognizing those things that need … Continue reading

Pregnancy and the Holidays

In recent weeks and months I have turned my attention towards planning and preparing for the upcoming holidays. My nesting instinct seems to be in full force and is focused more on these holiday preparations than other projects that I need to complete before the baby is born (I still need to finish a couple of ballet paintings for the nursery and make the crib bumper!). Alas my mind is consumed with both Thanksgiving and Christmas plans; Christmas of course being the greater focus of the two. I began my preparations for Thanksgiving with the ordering of lard. This year … Continue reading

Pros and Cons to Elliptical Machines

I am a pretty big of my elliptical machine. I have a NordicTrack, found at most exercise stores and department stores that carry exercise equipment (such as Sears). Although the elliptical machines are one of my favorite workout machines, like with any machine, there are pros and cons. Pros One pro to an elliptical, whether at the gym or at your home, is that it is an indoor workout. Indoor workouts are convenient when the weather outside is less than desirable. Indoor workouts can also be safer. Instead of running outside where you have to deal with terrain, the elliptical … Continue reading

The Good and the Bad of Social Networking

As with almost anything in life, social networking can have its good sides but it can also have its bad sides. Sometimes the decision to allow your teen to engage in social networking will depend on whether or not you think the bad outweighs the good or vice versa. We have to first acknowledge that social media is likely here to stay. It is not a fad that will die out anytime soon. Keeping up with the world is sometimes the only direction to go. In fact in my career as a writer, you usually need to have knowledge of … Continue reading

Pros and Cons of a Partnership

Are you considering going into business with a partner? During the emotional high of talking about a business it is easy to jump into a partnership without assessing if the partnership you agreed to will work. Let’s Party – The Pros And Cons Of Home Party Sales

For some reason, it seems like every time I turn around, I am being invited to attend a party. Now before you think that I am going to begin complaining about the pitfalls of being popular, let me reassure you that this is not the case. While I do have quite a few friends and many acquaintances, not all of these invitations are for birthdays or dinner parties. In fact, most of them are not. Most of them are for home party sale parties. Let me further expand on this by saying that if home party sales are hot here … Continue reading

Roger Ebert Gets a New Look and Oprah Gets a New Sibling

I grew up watching “Sneak Previews” (later titled “At the Movies” and then “Siskel and Ebert”) with Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel. When Siskel died in 1999 after complications from brain surgery, Ebert soldiered on with Richard Roeper. In 2002, Ebert learned he had thyroid cancer. By 2006, Ebert bowed out of the show after he had surgery on cancerous tissue in his jaw. The surgery removed a section of his jaw bone, disfiguring Ebert. His health was precarious for a while, but it stabilized. However, the surgery took his voice. When he could, Ebert returned to his movie reviews, … Continue reading

The Cons of Purchasing a Pre-Fabricated Home

Earlier, I shared some pros about purchasing a trailer home. Such a blog isn’t really complete without a companion piece to balance it out, so let’s take a look at some of the cons. 1. Getting the Loan. When you buy a home, the house itself becomes part of the collateral. But a trailer home isn’t considered real estate, so you will need to either have another source of collateral, or a nice-sized down payment when you talk to the loan officer. 2. Quality. Trailer homes were built to be as economical as possible, and if you’re purchasing one built … Continue reading
