I've loved Dover for a long time but somehow missed the freebie offer! Toys and Dolls for Multicultural Families - Blog Entry29 Dec 2007 02:09 PM Thanks Richard--I recently found this site and included it in another blog, "Gifts and Books for Adoptive Families". It's great to hear from someone who has tried more of their products than I have. Please continue to share resources and thanks for reading! Celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas - Blog Entry26 Dec 2007 06:03 PM Celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas is also cheaper--not only will I buy little gifts for Epiphany at 50-60% off, but I will also buy treats for our 12th Night party at 70% off--and since we have our decorations up from Christmas Eve to mid-Jan I bought a couple of decorations on the 22nd for 75% off. Celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas - Blog Entry20 Dec 2007 12:23 AM Our family doesn't decorate or bake until Christmas Eve, then continues until Epiphany. We do a few Christmas things--concerts, work party, looking at lights--before Christmas, but try to make that mostly a time of spiritual preparation and then party for the 12 Days! I think kids like to do that anyway. I noticed when I was teaching preschool that it was after Halloween that kids wanted to play trick-or-treating, but the other teachers had put all the Halloween decor and dress-up away by Nov. 1. It seemed a shame. There's less of a letdown if the biggest day is the first day of Christmas rather than the last. We give little presents on Epiphany too. Hug your Local Neurologist! - Blog Entry11 Dec 2007 01:17 PM You are so right Katie-Anne--I have chronic fatigue and pain from injuries and sometimes it just seems like too much trouble to get myself something to eat, let alone plan meals ahead. It's a good thing I have a family to feed at least at dinnertime--I can't imagine how much more unhealthy I'd be if I didn't have to feed/set an example for the kids! Cheez-Its are just so darn handy! Cookie-Scented Ad Campaign Crumbles - Blog Entry11 Dec 2007 01:02 PM I am very allergic to perfumes and scented products--sometimes before I can even smell them I feel my sinuses close up. For my mother and many asthmatics, chemicals in scents can trigger serious breathing problems. So, while it was a creative idea, I'm afraid I agree with not having scents in places as small and enclosed as a bus. It's actually a big problem for me--someone got the bright idea to spray "holiday scents" at my husband's office Christmas party last year and I became nauseated and had to leave with a migraine, after splurging for a new dress and nice haircut which I almost never do. I'd add a plea to people to be considerate in how they use perfumes and aftershave if they are going to an enclosed space where people cannot move about--such as a bus, a church service or long performance with assigned seating. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! (and lungs)! Resources for Responding to Racism - Blog Entry01 Dec 2007 06:01 PM Hi Ed, great to hear from you again!
