Babies Produced by the Drug Culture - Blog Entry

Vernell I am so excited for you! Ed stopped writing blogs for us in mid-March but I know if he reads this he'll be thrilled! Let us know how things go for you! Although my own experience is in international adoption I hope some things will be relevant to you, and we do have frequent guest blogs from Anna and Melissa who both adopted through the foster care system.

Gina is traveling to pick up her daughter this week also--what a week! Congratulations!

Avoiding a C Section - Blog Entry

25 Apr 2007 12:17 AM

It really seems to vary. I had an infection and excess scar tissue after my C-section. I was sore for a long time but I also had been on bedrest in pregnancy. I'm guessing my muscles would have recovered faster if they'd been in shape. My sister seemed to do great after hers. I have another friend who had a C-section after a long labor, as I did, and wants to skip labor and schedule one next time. I would try harder not to have one.

I have a neighbor who had four C-sections, two since I've known her. For one she took only Tylenol after surgery! The next one she felt a lot more tired and sore after, who knows why?

The bottom line for me is: a)do what's best for the baby; you'll be ok either way. and b) don't compare yourself to other women--if you need more time to recover after, that's fine. Don't feel you need to drive in two weeks or paint your deck in two months just because someone else did it after their C-sections.

Congratulations and good luck!

Budget Friendly Innovative Scrapbook Supply Storage - Blog Entry

When I went away to college I opened my suitcase to find that my mom had tucked in various toiletries--packed in her old dishwasher basket! It was actually perfect because I could haul everything to the communal dorm showers and water drained out of it instead of accumulating.

Wisconsin Legislator Calls for Teachers to Carry Guns in School - Blog Entry

17 Apr 2007 10:11 PM

I can understand people wanting to have guns for protection or sport, etc. What puzzles me is the NRA's objection to a ban on semi-automatic and automatic weapons. Most of the NRA members I know seem to be pretty law-abiding folk and I wonder if they really support the NRA leaders in this. The nation's police unions, etc. have stated they are opposed to people being able to buy semi-automatic and automatic weapons.

It just seems to me that no one needs a gun that can kill so many so quickly, so I don't really understand why the 10-year ban on them was allowed to expire two years ago.

Isn't this a different issue from trying to restrict people from owning a basic handgun or a hunting rifle, which I can understand people objecting to on 2nd amendment grounds.

To Travel or Not To Travel? - Blog Entry

We were also lucky enough to have some snapshots taken by the foster mothers. One daughter had more than the other, so her scrapbook is filled in with post cards of Korea and pictures clipped from brochures, etc. so that they won't be too different in size. Some parents send the foster mothers a disposable camera via the agency so that they can capture some shots of the child's younger months.

Turning Down a Referral - Blog Entry

Thanks for your comment Kori. It was hard for me to see past that one child's situation, but I finally realized that saying no to helping this chid meant I'd be free to help another that I could really help more.

Ease Your Child's Transition: Learn Cultural Child Care Practices - Blog Entry

When I met Dr. Kim, I remember thinking, "This is what people describe feeling when they met Mother Teresa."

I was using DH and DD for "Dear Husband" and "Dear Daughter" (also DS for dear son).
