Mainstreaming Our Learning Disabled Child - Blog Entry

Hi Linda,

This is awesome and really encouraging. I am at the other end beginning evaluations and testing for my 7 year old. It's not really a surprise to me but the teachers are now admitting it and I can tell by her behavior she is beginning to feel it too. Randy's confidence is awesome to hear about, thanks for sharing.

ADHD and Adopted Children - Blog Entry

Our daughter seems to be doing well in a smaller group and quieter place. She had trouble in the Early Intervention toddler program. There may have been a 1-2 adult-kid ratio, but there were still 12 kids plus OT, PT, speech therapist, teacher and two aides in there--and one kid who had her own aide....it was a pretty busy place. My own theory now is auditory processing issues.

But I have to admit, just getting her to put her shoes on is hard--she sees something here, something there, stops to look at this, her sock itches, etc. I think I can be forgetful and distracted sometimes myself, but I've never seen anything like this.

I must admit I'm not in the most optimistic mood now (10:30 pm) because I just found her in the bathroom smearing Eucerin cream (thanks for the tip Andrea, it works great on her skin) all over the mirror, counters, pajamas etc.

Celebrating Baby New Year - Blog Entry

Heather--thanks for this info! I have a "Y2K Baby" born January 1, 2000! When we went to Korea to pick her up we visited the hospital where she was born. A nurse told me she'd been there for our daughter's birth. I was thinking, "sure, an OB nurse remembers over 11 months later". Then the social worker said, "everyone is this hospital remembers your baby because she was the first one born in this hospital in the New Year".

Preparing Kids For an Unsafe World - Blog Entry

My eight year old commented to me recently that the U.S. has been at war for as long as he can remember. That just broke my heart. I just remember my childhood as such a safe-seeming time (although I know now that there's a lot I just wasn't aware of, of course).
