Including Children in Home Births - Blog Entry

When I was pregnant with my last baby, my husband and I had a conversation about what to do with the girls. I told him that if they asked, I would let them be there. They didn't want to come, so they stayed home with Nana. It definitely has to work for everyone, but when it does can be a beautiful experience for the family.

Thanks for that comment. I just had a baby three months ago and was told Sudafed was fine. I never took it because it makes me jittery and unable to sleep.

Breastfeeding At 35,000 Feet = High-Flying Controversy - Blog Entry

I just read about this case. Making her get off the plane is clearly discrimination and in violation of the breastfeeding laws. Stories like this really bother me because I'm afraid they may discourage some new moms from breastfeeding. I breastfed my first daughter on airplanes, but not with this airline. The pediatrician told me to do it on take off and landing to protect her ears. I've never had anyone say anything to me at all.

I'm not a huge fan of lawsuits, but I think she should sue. It may make them think twice and train their employees better in the future. People need to realize that feeding a child at the breast is the most natural thing in the world. It really sounds like she was discreet; she wasn't topless and her husband was between her and the aisle.

I think both parents should have a say in non emergency medical procedures. I'd like to see them investigate why the boy is having recurring infections. Maybe mom doesn't know how to clean it properly or hasn't taught her son proper hygeine techniques.

Dads That Breastfeed: A Manly Man's Perspective - Blog Entry

My husband is also very supportive of breastfeeding. He doesn't get up during the night with me, but he does take the early morning shift before work or on the weekends, so I can sleep. I agree that Dads are very important for successful breastfeeding. Great blog, Valerie!

Monitoring Baby During Labor - Blog Entry

Continuous monitoring should only be used when a problem is detected with intermittent monitoring. This would help prevent the problems you discuss with continuous monitoring and save it only for use in high risk situations. Unfortunately, it isn't currently used this way in many hospitals.

I'm four days from my due date and willing to try almost anything. Maybe I'll go get some Hamburger helper. I think I'll skip the Castor Oil though! :-)

The Importance of Self Image in Pregnancy - Blog Entry

I'm so sorry you're going through this! Try to remember that this time will pass. Although it may feel like you'll be pregnant forever, you won't. If you can't get support from your partner, find someone else to talk to. Talk to a friend who's been there, your mom or even your doctor. You need to find support and encouragement during this time. Good luck with your baby.
