Pediatrician Visits

When a child is sick, you know immediately that they will need to see their pediatrician. If they are only going in for a cold or flu, you know that the only thing you will need to tell their doctor is the symptoms they have had, how long they have lasted and what you have given them. For well child checkups, there isn’t much to know. The pediatrician will ask the questions that they need to know the answers to. However, if you have a concern about your child, you’ll need to be prepared for your visit. I am concerned … Continue reading

Study About Autism and ER Visits Reveals Much

A recent study found that children who have an autism spectrum disorder are nine times more likely to visit an emergency room for a psychiatric reason than are children who do not have autism. This result is being interpreted to mean that there isn’t sufficient outpatient mental health care for families that need it. A study was recently published in the journal Pediatric Emergency Care. Researchers analyzed data from over 3.9 million emergency room visits in the United States. Specifically, they focused on ER visits by children who were between 3 and 17 years old. The researchers used the 2008 … Continue reading

Baby’s 9 Month Well Visit

So, yesterday, my baby had his 9 month well child visit at the pediatrician’s office. The 9 month visit is usually an easy one because no vaccines are involved. So, there was a lot of just talking and visiting with the pediatrician. My baby put on the charms. He was laughing and smiling like crazy at the doctor who has a habit of working hard to get the smiles out of my kids. He acts pretty silly at times, and that is something my kids love. We also discussed eating. Solids have been a little bit of a challenge for … Continue reading

Doctors Visited the 2012 RNC

The 2012 Republican National Convention is over. By now, you’ve probably heard all the speeches, and read many news articles about the event. What you may not have heard is that groups of doctors visited the convention in an effort to get messages regarding healthcare, and health insurance, to the delegates. The Republican National Convention was where the Republican Party officially named Mitt Romney as their candidate for the 2012 Presidential election. This means that his running mate, Paul Ryan, is the official Republican candidate for Vice President in the election. Somehow, the thing that is being talked about the … Continue reading

Do You Love Your Pediatrician?

In the last year, I had to switch pediatricians because of moving. I really liked my last pediatrician and was sad about having to make a change. I asked him for a recommendation, and he knew of a pediatrician that “a lot of people seem to like” that was super close to my house. So, I decided to go to him. Little did I know that my baby would have so many complexing issues. I’m kind of a stressed out mama a lot of the time, so his personality fit perfectly with me in that he is very laid back, … Continue reading

Fatherhood and Doctor’s Visits

We’ve spent a lot of time in doctors’ offices lately. A chiropractor who does many things other than spine adjustments to treat his patients has discovered and helped many of our family health problems. My wife Tristi was in a wreck that totaled both the semi truck and the Hyundai her friend drove. So we’re experienced with both getting well, and getting vehicles off crowded, icy roads. Visits to doctors’ offices are usually done by the children’s mother. As our family roles change, or as semis are taken out by Hyundais, fathers also get to bring their children to visit … Continue reading

Insurance Program Helps Canadians Visit Mayo Clinic

A health insurance company in Canada is about to offer an innovative insurance program to Canadians. The company’s new insurance policy will make it easier for Canadians to receive health care at the Mayo Clinic, (which is located in the United States). This new insurance will not be available in Quebec. The Mayo Clinic is a non-profit medical practice and medical research group. It is not just one building, or just one campus of health care facilities. The Mayo clinic is located primarily in Rochester, Minnesota, Jacksonville, Florida, and Scottsdale/Phoenix, Arizona. There are over 70 hospitals and clinics that are … Continue reading

Our First Social Worker Visit

When a child is placed with you in Foster Care you have to do visits with both your social worker and the state’s social worker. Most of our visits came from our own social worker. She would drive up about every two weeks, to see how they boys were adjusting and if we had any problems or concerns. When our first visit came we were very concerned we really did not know how it was going to go. Steve was still rather shy and we hoped that all would go well. We thought we made good progress so far, we … Continue reading

Developmental Pediatrician

Our toddler has delays in speech and cognition. She is also delayed with potty training and sleeping. I tried to get Jessie into speech therapy through ECI early, but ECI would not provide it until she was two. Even then, the services they gave were woefully inadequate. When Jessie went for her three-year well-child visit, the pediatrician suggested that I take her to a developmental pediatrician for help with her delays. Jessie’s doctor gave me a list of developmental pediatricians in the area and I went to work on getting an appointment. My first choice was no longer practicing so … Continue reading
