Planning for Emergencies

One thing that is important when thinking of emergency preparedness is to have a plan. Since there are many different types of emergencies, you many need several different plans, or variants on these plans. It is important to know what you will do in an emergency before it actually happens, because you may not have the time or the ability to sit down and plan what needs to be done, and how to most effectively make it happen.

Over the next few weeks I will be talking about the different emergencies that you may face, and the things that you will need to do before hand to prepare for these emergencies. Different types of natural disasters require different responses. You may need to have different plans depending on the time of year or on where your family is located.

When I think of emergencies, I tend to think of natural disasters such as weather-related events, fires, or earthquakes. But these can include family emergencies such as a sudden illness or a death in the family. These situations may include things as simple as a job loss. While sirens may not come screeching to the scene, it still can be very overwhelming to the family that is affected. It is important to have a plan on how to deal with these times.

It is important to have your supplies on hand so that you can deal with any situation that may arise. I will write about what supplies you will need, and proper ways to store and move these items. I will also write about the different types of information that you will need to gather together, where you should store it, and what information you should take with you in an emergency.

Being prepared can also mean being personally prepared to face difficult situations. I will write about classes that you can take to prepare yourself. I will also write about storing food for times when your family may need it. Being prepared to meet any situation that may arrive will bring you and your family peace of mind. You will not need to worry because you will know that you have already planned for any contingency.
