It is also supposed to include washed out clean glass items. But, they seem to reject those constantly, even when the glass is clearly marked for recycling. Go figure. The Truth About Television - Blog Entry25 Feb 2007 01:09 PM TV can be very educational for children....within certain limits and for short periods of time. I think it is good for children to learn to appreciate classical music, musicals, literature, art, dance, and more. Using specific shows can help this. Lisa, I didn't know you spoke French. Another new twist in your history. Some of us only speak English. From my Swedish heritage, I only know one simple folk song and a few spoken words. What a shame this wasn't shared more when I was growing up. Thanks for sharing some of the good things that come from viewing TV! Secret Family Signals - Blog Entry25 Feb 2007 01:02 PM I have neighbors that do the "I love you" in sign language to each other. The children learned it as babies. So cute! I have to share another experience that we observed. We were waiting in a long line to enter a big amusement park. Ahead of us were grandparents, son & DIL, and grade school aged grandkids. The grandmother let out this noise, "Hoot Hoot!" and sounded like an owl. She always called her children with this. It was really obnoxious, distinctive, but obnoxious. I asked the DIL if she too used this, "Hoot Hoot!" and she laughed, "No way, it's only my MIL that does this in the family." The grandpa got out of line and the grandmother "Hoot Hoot!" to have him locate her again. It was too funny. When in Doubt...Bake Cookies - Blog Entry24 Feb 2007 05:46 PM This is one of those special memories that your children will never forget.... learning to bake and time with Mom. Thanks for sharing! A Siren's Sound for Prayer - Blog Entry13 Feb 2007 08:19 PM As our sons were growing up, we did the same thing.... upon hearing a siren, we would pray for those individuals involved. One time we came upon a major wreck coming back from my parents' home. Several ambulances were on the 4 lane highway. It looked very serious, traffic was detoured off the highway. All 4 of us prayed for those individuals in the wreckage and for the emergency personnel. It is one of those sights, a person never forgets. About a week later, one of those teenagers involved in the wreck became my patient at the hospital on the Plastic Surgical Unit. He was not the driver, and it was a car from the opposite direction that was in error. He did not remember the details of the wreck, and I chose not to share them either. The one thing that was important to the teenager's mother, and what I did share, was that as passerbyers going by the emergency vehicles, we were all praying for those people.... including her son. Amazing how things turn out. Glad you have brought up this topic. Divorce in the Bible - Blog Entry13 Feb 2007 08:12 PM Thank you for sharing those Bible verses. One thing to remember: a sin is a sin is a sin. Everybody I know is a sinner, except for Jesus! How Close Are We To A Smoke-Free Workplace? - Blog Entry30 Jan 2007 05:31 PM I work at a smoke-free hospital. DH works at a smoke-free state capitol building. Last fall all the local restaurants, bars, etc. were made smoke-free environments. A friend of ours last summer went to the Long Horn restaurant, new in town. She sat down in the smoke-free section, which was a small partitioned area and right next to smokers. She immediately went into an asthma attack, which was a complete surprise, as she only had mild asthma. Ended up in the ED. Her husband is a respiratory therapist. That's one reason I never tried that new restaurant - the smoke. Now that it's smoke-free, I plan to enjoy lunch there.
