Prayer works wonders. Dads in the Delivery Room - Blog Entry16 Jul 2006 08:42 AM DH was in the labor room and delivery room with both our sons. *** He turned green one time and they had him step out for coffee and returned just fine. **** If he was turning green......just think what I was going through. *** He tried to get my mind off my contractions during DS#2's labor by playing 'Hangman' with me. I do not believe that was in the Lamaze book or bag anywhere. **** My epidural on DS#2 did not work and I was very uncomfortable. **** The nurses were WONDERFUL! DH bought them big boxes of candy for me. *** I'm glad he was there for both births. Public Schools vs. Private Schools Courtesy of the Department of Education - Blog Entry15 Jul 2006 09:43 PM Our sons went to a private school from K - 8th grade, then public h.s. 9 - 12. We had our 1st home with a grade school just 2 - 3 blocks away and DS#1 was ready to start kindergarten. Nope, he could not attend our neighborhood school, he would have to be bussed acrossed town for up to an hour's commute both ways. Actually, my DS#1 going from private 8th grade to public 9 - 12th grades, had the same textbooks in english and science for his 9th grade year as in grade 8. He ended up being #3 in his h.s. graduating class. DS#2 had the same science book in the public 9th grade, that he'd had in private 5th grade. Go figure. Prison Marriages - Blog Entry15 Jul 2006 09:37 PM I too have heard similar sad stories about women getting tangled in this web. It is not a pretty picture. Certainly individuals in prison need connections with the outside world: family, love, support, Christian/religious services. But there needs to be a line drawn, between making a Christian/religious commitment and a becoming married in the process. Help! I Don't Have Enough Milk! - Blog Entry13 Jul 2006 08:00 PM Great tips for sharing with other nursing Moms. The hospital where I gave birth, has an excellent nursing instructor with a degree, and is an expert. She always gives her card to new Moms and includes her telephone number as a handy reference. She even can have the new nursing Moms return with the baby, to the hospital for more coaching, if needed, and it is a free service. She has done this for over 20 years and is a wonderful resource for moms. That is very reassuring. For Babies Born on the 4th of July - Blog Entry13 Jul 2006 07:55 PM My son was not born on the 4th of July, but was conceived on the 4th of July. Opposite end of the pregnancy, but just as interesting. Choosing Diapers - Cloth or Disposable - Blog Entry13 Jul 2006 07:53 PM Good information about babies and diapers. DS#1 was allergic, so we could only use Pampers on his little behind. DS#2 did not have this allergy, so whatever was on sale and I had coupons for, was the brand to purchase. We used the cloth diapers as a burp cloth. When Your Baby Won't Stop Crying - Blog Entry13 Jul 2006 07:51 PM Great tips for that fussy little one! As a Mom to 2 DS, I have been there.....done all of those. Another thought; bathing can be very comforting to baby. If baby has had a bath and continues to cry, then Mom, should place baby is a safe place like the swing, and take a shower herself. Or you could try to place the car seat on top of the dryer, turn on the dryer, so that it jiggles the baby gently. Stay with the baby, do not leave the baby unattended on top of the dryer. Another thought is that one nephew always settled down, when the blow dryer was turned on. Do not point the blow dryer at the baby or leave it unattended. The noise can be soothing. If one of the ideas isn't working for your little one, then try the next. Every baby has a fussy time to relieve some stress. Good luck, Mom & Dad! Maybe It's a Little Backwards... - Blog Entry12 Jul 2006 08:15 PM My kids have always like to have an occasional switch - breakfast for dinner!
