Edible Flowers--Introduction - Blog Entry

26 May 2007 02:41 PM

This is always something that I wanted to try......but haven't yet. I have seen a few edible flowers in the salad aisle, but they were pretty costy too.

Actually, I was also considering sugaring some of the flowers and placing them on baked goods. I have seen these in high end magazines. Gorgeous!

Thank you for this topic, Valorie.

Did they taste yummy?

Thoughts on the Recent Faked Gun Attack - Blog Entry

Two topics going on: Fake gun attack IMO was wrong, wrong, wrong!

Overnight trips for school children.

Yes, both my kids in Lutheran school were on Mon-Fri trips at the local Lutheran church camp during 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade. Parents had to volunteer to stay overnight and help each day. Teachers are there the entire time. Kids are busy every hour with a new topic and learning.

Even all the local public schools do this locally at the same camp. This has been in the curriculum for many years, nothing new.

They stay in a conference center with girls on one level, boys on another level. Each room is filled with bunkbeds and large bathrooms.

As Valorie noted, there is so much more to learn in the real world, not just in the classroom. Topics include Communication, Science, Biology, Conservation, Classification, Weather, Hiking, canoeing, & swimming (PE), Stars & Planets at night, Cooking, Using a compass and following a trail, English - with a daily journal of all the activities, and even math!

My boys really enjoyed these week long camps and have fond memories.

Is It Better to Buy Top Quality Items or to Save Money? - Blog Entry

Vaccuums - Uuuuugggg!

Over the course of our marriage, we have had cheap ones, expensive ones, middle of the road ones, big ones, little ones.

The most expensive one was the electrolux model for $XXXX.XX expensive. Did it last any longer than the Sears models? No. Did it do a better job? No.

We have had lots of vaccuums in our marriage.

DH just got a new one with no bags. He seems to like it.

The one I like the most is my little red Roomba. Only because it goes on its own and is so cute. I do not have to push it.

Is it the perfect vaccuum? No. But, I do not have to push it around the room. So, that makes it the best one right now.

Have you ever met anyone from the Internet in person? - Blog Entry

15 May 2007 06:31 PM

I met one on-line friend a couple summers back. We were back vacationing in the same town at the same time, both of us were out-of-state. I made certain we met in a public place.

With my family present, we made arrangements to meet by the pool. We played Marco - Polo.....with no luck.

We thought we were in the same condo area.....only to discover there were 4 with the exact same name.

Two days later, we actually met in person at the pool area of her condo building. We just laughed and had a lovely visit.

Be careful. Not everyone is who they portray themselves here online.

5 Tips for Taking Your Baby Out to a Restaurant - Blog Entry

15 May 2007 06:42 AM

I can also recall once when everything was going well w/ DS#1 as a toddler, then just before the food arrived......it all broke loose.

We chose to take our food in 'to go' containers and leave the restaurant in peace.

That is another alternative.

I can recall it only occuring once.

Most of the time the boys were very well behaved & minded their manners.

Always bring along some little animal crackers, Cheerios, or other fingerfood to keep them content until the meal arrives.

Don't forget some quiet play toys.

Reminds me of a 'No No.'

Once DH and I were having a big night out and my Mom kept the boys for us. We were at a lovely restaurant, just the two of us, trying for some romance.

Next to us is then seated a family of 4 with two small children. The mother starts loudly singing, "The Incey Wincey Spider," including all the actions, in a very off key voice.

Really ruined our appetite for dinner.

Thank you for the great tips, Valerie!
