And What About All Those Paper Towel Tubes?

18 Jul 2006 04:45 PM

I did something similar to Eansmommy's project. DS#1 had kindergarten graduation and I made cute little party favors so they looked like graduation caps with toilet paper tubes. I placed candy inside the 2" paper tube and cut it as noted above. I either glued or taped a 2" square of poster board on top to make a top of the little hat. Added a cute tassel and a sticker on top.

It was very cheap for a party favor and sooooo cute.

This could be for any type of a graduation ceremony, not just kindergarten.

Oprah Says She Is Not Gay

I never ever considered that Oprah was gay.

A woman needs to have friends to share things with. That does not make her gay.

Dealing with Tender Breasts

Another tip for new moms: when baby needs to be removed from the breast, do not just pull the baby away as it will also pull on the breast itself.

Pulling on baby sucking on the breast = pain for mom.

Simply place your clean finger, by the baby's mouth or lips to break the sucking seal, then remove the baby from the breast.

Picnics 101

16 Jul 2006 08:46 AM

For years my parents have kept a bag in the truck of the car for spur-of-the-moment picnics. In it are paper plates, napkins, cups, utensils, a tablecloth, serving utensils, a clean/empty cooler, etc.

Then, a quick stop at the supermarket or drive through restaurant makes for a quick and fun picnic.

What if Your Spouse Won't Go to Church?

Definitely keep this spouse on your prayer list/journal to begin attending church with you. Prayer works wonders.

Dads in the Delivery Room

16 Jul 2006 08:42 AM

DH was in the labor room and delivery room with both our sons. *** He turned green one time and they had him step out for coffee and returned just fine. **** If he was turning green......just think what I was going through. *** He tried to get my mind off my contractions during DS#2's labor by playing 'Hangman' with me. I do not believe that was in the Lamaze book or bag anywhere. **** My epidural on DS#2 did not work and I was very uncomfortable. **** The nurses were WONDERFUL! DH bought them big boxes of candy for me. *** I'm glad he was there for both births.

Public Schools vs. Private Schools Courtesy of the Department of Education

15 Jul 2006 09:43 PM

Our sons went to a private school from K - 8th grade, then public h.s. 9 - 12.

We had our 1st home with a grade school just 2 - 3 blocks away and DS#1 was ready to start kindergarten.

Nope, he could not attend our neighborhood school, he would have to be bussed acrossed town for up to an hour's commute both ways.

Actually, my DS#1 going from private 8th grade to public 9 - 12th grades, had the same textbooks in english and science for his 9th grade year as in grade 8. He ended up being #3 in his h.s. graduating class.

DS#2 had the same science book in the public 9th grade, that he'd had in private 5th grade. Go figure.

Prison Marriages

15 Jul 2006 09:37 PM

I too have heard similar sad stories about women getting tangled in this web. It is not a pretty picture.

Certainly individuals in prison need connections with the outside world: family, love, support, Christian/religious services.

But there needs to be a line drawn, between making a Christian/religious commitment and a becoming married in the process.

Help! I Don't Have Enough Milk!

Great tips for sharing with other nursing Moms.

The hospital where I gave birth, has an excellent nursing instructor with a degree, and is an expert. She always gives her card to new Moms and includes her telephone number as a handy reference. She even can have the new nursing Moms return with the baby, to the hospital for more coaching, if needed, and it is a free service. She has done this for over 20 years and is a wonderful resource for moms. That is very reassuring.

For Babies Born on the 4th of July

My son was not born on the 4th of July, but was conceived on the 4th of July.

Opposite end of the pregnancy, but just as interesting.
