Choosing Diapers - Cloth or Disposable

13 Jul 2006 07:53 PM

Good information about babies and diapers.

DS#1 was allergic, so we could only use Pampers on his little behind. DS#2 did not have this allergy, so whatever was on sale and I had coupons for, was the brand to purchase.

We used the cloth diapers as a burp cloth.

When Your Baby Won't Stop Crying

13 Jul 2006 07:51 PM

Great tips for that fussy little one!

As a Mom to 2 DS, I have been there.....done all of those.

Another thought; bathing can be very comforting to baby. If baby has had a bath and continues to cry, then Mom, should place baby is a safe place like the swing, and take a shower herself.

Or you could try to place the car seat on top of the dryer, turn on the dryer, so that it jiggles the baby gently. Stay with the baby, do not leave the baby unattended on top of the dryer.

Another thought is that one nephew always settled down, when the blow dryer was turned on. Do not point the blow dryer at the baby or leave it unattended. The noise can be soothing.

If one of the ideas isn't working for your little one, then try the next. Every baby has a fussy time to relieve some stress. Good luck, Mom & Dad!

More "Drama" For The Osbourne's

I liked seeing that show too. Interesting seeing how the 'rich and famous' live. What a shame they had a fire in their home, but luckily no one expired as a result of the fire.

Makes the rest of us look very 'normal,' doesn't it!

Can You Bring on Labor?

09 Jul 2006 08:00 PM

Intersting topic! I have a sister-in-law that swears that Hamburger Helper brought on both of her labors. MIL was told by her doctor to take Castor Oil with two different pregnancies and she delivered 4 hours later with both. I have also heard that going over railroad tracks, because of the bumps. Neither of these I have much faith in....or suggest that you do them. But, I do believe that walking is probably the safest method.

Bake Your Own Bread

09 Jul 2006 07:55 PM

Everyone loves fresh homemade bread from the oven.

I sometimes use the bread machine, other times I use the dough hook on my Kitchen Aid mixer, and yet it still feels good to knead bread dough by hand.

Surprised me, but my DS#2 (now 17) really enjoys kneading bread dough by hand. He gets to use those big upper arm muscles.

I know we are talking about being healthy and frugal, but DH can eat an entire loaf in one sitting. It must be that good.

I grew up learning how to bake at the knee of my grandmother and my mother. Having a large family, there was almost daily baking for desserts or bread.

Now, I am passing it down to my sons.

Young Men: The Road to Eagle Scout

07 Jul 2006 07:16 PM

Miriam, thank you for sharing about Eagle Scouts!

This is a topic near and dear to my own heart. We have two sons, ages 20 and 17.

DS#1 has earned his Eagle Scout and DS#2 is very close, only needs to finish two badges, do his Eagle service project, go through the Board of Review and the he will have his Eagle Award Ceremony.

The Eagle follows a Scout the rest of his life. Scouting helps a young man to realize his inner strengths and gifts, choose his career, hobbies, and it helps form a youth into a man.

We started our sons as Tiger Cubs and both parents have been very supportive of our sons' Scouting activities whether it be leading meetings, going on hikes, baking cookies, or going with for overnight campouts.

Laying Tile

Great step by step instructions on laying tile.

Do you think you could come to my home and do the same thing?

I'm impressed that you can handle a DIY project of this size. WTG!

Travel Tip: Beware of Hotel Cribs

07 Jul 2006 05:21 PM

My oldest son is 20 years old and in college. Even that long ago, when traveling with a baby, we had concerns about those motel cribs.

We have not even touched about germs from the previous child. We did not want our son to be teething on a wooden crib that had a different little baby with nausea and vomiting or diarrhea in it the night before.

We purchased a pack and play over 20 years ago for DS#1. It came with its own fitted sheet that had an adorable pattern. While they have advanced in design and features, one thing remains the same, the comfort of knowing that my little one was in a safe, clean, and sanitary bed to sleep.

So glad that you brought up this safety concern for our babies.
