I truly cannot believe that formula is 'better' for infants or babies than mother's milk. (The exception would be a mother with a disease process like HIV +.) I would also believe that genetics as well as environmental issues cause allergies and asthma/bronchitis/pneumonia. Being alone can be a scarey experience. We know one couple where the husband was an EMT. He was very concerned over his wife's health and said he would not be in the delivery room. His stance was that if she or the baby went into distress, he would "be in the way of the doctor and medical staff to save his wife's or the baby's life." Turns out, he changed his mind and was present during that pg and the subsequent one. He decided that he did not want to miss out on a very important part of his child's first breaths.
