Homecoming Weekend 2006 Part I

It is a beautiful fall weekend - the sun is shining; trees are turning shades of yellow, orange, and red; mums are in full bloom in the yard in colors of orange, purple, yellow; and there is a definite chill in the air.  Yes, it is Homecoming weekend at high school.

This is the 7th year in a row, and is our last, that we have a child in high school and going to homecoming.  I'm just not certain how all that time has flown by so quickly.

It is always the same:  Friday night parade at 5:30 sharp followed by a big pep rally and bombfire.  Saturday afternoon is the football game at 1:30, and the big homecoming dance is 8:00-11:00 with the crowning of the queen and king at 10:45.

Seven years we have done this.  Yes, seven years.  The end of an era.

The parade was delightful.  It was headed up by the police with lights flashing and sirens going.  Then, the local politicians, Cub Scouts and Boy Sscouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts, cheerleaders, all kinds of athletic groups, the marching band, all kinds of decorated floats, and the football teams from kindergarten aged through high school.  The high school players were all on the firetrucks with lights turning off and on and an occasional horn.  The honored guests for the homecoming weekend were chosen by the students and were the principal and head guidance counselor.  Isn't that fitting.

We were really proud of DS#2 up on the firetruck in his football uniform.

Go #79!  Woo Hoo!
