Homecoming Weekend 2006 Part II

If you happened to read Part I, you can recall all the wonderful festivities related to Friday night and the homecoming parade, pep rally, and bombfire.

Thought I'd add some more descriptive details.

DS#2 and his football friends had been hauling wood for the bombfire for 3 - 4 weekends in preparation.  They'd made several trips to the woods, collected wood pallets from local businesses, and had a fun time doing what boys do, getting dirty in the process.  He also managed to get poisen oak on one of these wood hauling trips.  They had a huge pile of wood for the bombfire.  Things were all set in place and ready to go.

DH is a good father and a good son too.  He'd planned to take off Friday and bring his elderly parents to see his elderly uncle, who recently had major surgery and was recooperating in a rehab center.  That is just one of the things a good son does.

But, he does not do it on homecoming weekend.  What was he thinking? Where were his brains?

DH knew it was homecoming and has participated now for 7 years with our sons in high school.  Homecoming is always the same year in and year out.

DH forgot all about the Friday night 5:30 PM homecoming parade his son was to be in.  How can that happen?  I do not know.

I was at work on Friday and got off at 4:30, needing a 20 minute ride to home to change clothes, then another 15 minute ride to the high school.  Perfectly timed, very orderly, just like the previous 6 years.

DH called me at work at 1:30 PM.  "DOn't get mad and don't scream. We just got here to see my uncle and we aren't going to make it home by 4:30."

Now, anytime a man says that, he KNOWS he is going to be in the doghouse.

I did what any normal red blooded American woman would do.  I called Enterprise to rent a car, so that I could leave the hospital, travel home, and get to see my son in the parade.  Enterprise....."we'll pick you up."  And in 10 minutes, I got this 4 door blue car.

The parade was great!  Lots of noise, lots of kids, participants throwing candy to the kids.  And the best part was my son, #79, up on the firetruck.

The real question here is:  was DH in the doghouse?  He just barely made it at the end of the parade and did get to see our son.  He also took some great photos and shared them with me on the internet.

Things do work out.  Everyone got to where they needed to be.
