Decorating the ChristmasTree

Everyone has different ideas about how to decorate a Christmas tree. Some people like them to be filled with memories of Christmases past and decorations that the children have made over the years. With each decoration put on the tree a memory is unleashed. They fill the room like a beautiful perfume. Other people want a tree that is elegant and simple where all the baubles and tinsel match and are all gold or silver or white. Some others like lots of tinsel draped everywhere or they may choose to go for handmade ornaments. There are as many different ways … Continue reading

Redecorating a Room- Part 2

Last week we looked at some tips for redecorating a room. I suggested using your favorite color or colors to decorate a room. Another idea is to think of your favorite outdoor location. If it is the beach, you might be a person who is most comfortable with blues and sandy colors. If it is a forest you might be happier with deep greens. Don’t just consider plain paint for the walls. Instead you might chose to go with a textured paint such as a suede look or you might decide to do what we did in one house and … Continue reading

Hints When Redecorating a Room

Before you even start to redecorate there are some questions you should ask yourself. First among them is what purpose the room is to be used for and who will use it. These will determine the types of materials and colors you chose to use. For example if you have young children an all white color wall and furniture color scheme and white or pale colored carpet would be highly impractical. You would spend your life getting stressed about keeping it clean and probably drive your family crazy in the process. We have white tiles on our family, dining room … Continue reading

Decorating the Christmas Tree

We finally got our Christmas tree on Thursday. Because it’s a real tree and summer here in Australia we can’t afford to buy the tree too early. A week is about right. Given the cost of them this year, possibly because of the drought that covers 80 percent of Australia, it’s a smaller tree than usual. Couldn’t justify the extra expense to get a bigger one. Anyway, it’s still got that Christmas tree smell. Putting the Christmas tree up turned into a funny exercise with Mick a screwing the screw into the stand while I held the tree firmly. Meanwhile, … Continue reading

More Inexpensive Home Decorating Ideas

Last week we looked at some inexpensive home decorating ideas. Here are some more. Use your photographs as a decoration. One way is to make a collage of photos from your family’s life. I used to have one large wall in our family room dedicated to photos of our family. Eventually it spread to two walls. You could track our family, and the various homes we’d lived in and pets we’d had, through that wall. I bought simple inexpensive frames and then rather than only put half a dozen or so photos in the allotted spots. I took the sectioned … Continue reading

Decorating for an Allergy Free Home

As I get older, my allergies get worse. Elements I used in decorating my home 7 years ago, no longer work for me. In addition, I have noticed that people with asthma who come to my house also have problems. Some might say that I just need to put more effort into cleaning my house, but that is not the problem. The problem is that I have 2 dogs and a cat, and that vaccuming and dusting causes an allergic reaction for me. This means I have alot of changes to make. After spending some time exploring our options, here … Continue reading

Room Decorating with a Preschooler

If your preschooler’s room is ready for a makeover, but you don’t know where to begin, then consult with an expert—-your child. Spend an afternoon with your preschooler placing bedroom items where he or she would like to see them. Work together to place the bed, dresser, toys and other belongings in areas that will work for both of you. By spending time with your preschooler, you can get a good sense of what she values when it comes to design. Perhaps she sees something that you do not. For example, having the bed face the closet can be scary … Continue reading
