Discipline is Not a Bad Word - Blog Entry

The fact that the type and degree of discipline should be relative to different kinds of children is a very good point. Discipline is obviously a necessity in the realm of parenting. Like you said, it is also good to explain why we are denying them certain privileges. That will help them to hold the word of the parents with more weight since they will know it is essentially for their own benefit.

Although discipline is an inevitable tactic at times, there is another course of action that is much more effective. When you show good solid appreciation for a child's good behavior, it will benefit the child ten times more than any form of discipline is capable of doing. By complimenting her or his good behavior, you will make the child want to continue that behavior. This will steer the child in the right direction by making it drastically easier to make the right decisions later on down the road. That is one thing I think you should have mentioned.
