Is Alcohol Harmless?

I 've seen the effects of alcohol on my family. At 15, my mother and I were hit by a drunk driver head on. My mom was put headfirst into the windshield. The wreck broke her up pretty good. Not a fun experience for a 15 year old to see while waiting for an ambulance.

My father in law happens to be an alcoholic. He has been out of work over twenty years now. He was a successful businessman with his own company pulling 6 figures before the suds slowly ruined him. Now he sits at home, blurry eyed, reading the sports page.

I think free choice is a principle all should ascribe to. However, free choice does not make us immune from the consequences of those choices. Never before have so many people been so thoroughly schooled in their "rights", while at the same time refusing to accept there are also 'wrongs" in life.

A side note: I do think it is sad that my father in law is missing out on a relationship with his grandchildren.

So, the question is:

Is alcohol "bad" or the user?

No different than the question:

Are guns "bad" or those who pull the trigger?
