There are some spots where there will be seasonal warming, and other spots that stay pretty frigid year-round. I guess it has to do with the currents - proximity to deeper cold currents vs. shallower warmer currents or more stagnant water. I remember the beach at Reed State Park as having the coldest water I had ever experienced and that the water at Popham and Old Orchard Beaches allowed for staying in a playing in the waves for a while. If we wanted to spend a lot of time in the water, we were better off going to a lake. I have been fleeing from the cold my entire life and now live in San Diego. Need to See the Beach!22 Aug 2006 08:36 AM Growing up in Maine, I lived near a lake that had this same sort of beach with grass above. Just try to picture the entire scene scaled down by at least a factor of ten! |
