Baby Product Recalls Cribs & Clothing - Blog Entry25 Feb 2009 11:35 AM Our crib had been recalled this fall. It is infuriating that they won't recall things until too many babies have been hurt or died. This is true with almost anything not just baby stuff. Manufactures will determine which is cheaper, lawsuits or replace/modify the item. What the Color of Your Car Says About You - Blog Entry25 Feb 2009 11:29 AM We first go by price then available options. We don't like paying for a lot of extras and it seems like there are always a lot of options we don't need. Color is last on our list. If we could have found a silver we would have. We like silver b/c it seems to look less dirty. Black is the worst b/c it always looks dirty. Our current car is a dark gray. What to Do When Someone Returns Your Stuff Damaged - Blog Entry25 Feb 2009 11:20 AM Dec 2007 we had a really bad ice storm and had a lot of tree damage. My husbands coworker purchased a chain saw and when he finished he let us borrow it. It broke during the first cut! My husband offered to get it fixed but they didn't want him to. Luckily they were able to return it and get a replacement! My husband did go out and buy us one b/c he was not going to borrow one ever again!! How Often Do You Yell at Your Kids? - Blog Entry16 Feb 2009 11:47 AM My husband has a loud voice and I am constantly trying to get him to quiet down with our daughter b/c I am afraid that she won't know the difference from when it is "real" or not. Baby Products You Don't Need - Blog Entry05 Feb 2009 12:54 PM I have to disagree with the last one! We have the diaper champ. It is easy to use and take regular kitchen trash bags. We have two, one on the main floor and one in her closet on the second floor. We empty them one a week when it's trash time. We have yet to have a smell issue. But I will add I have friends with the diaper gene and I hate them. Breastfed Infants Are Less Likely to Be Neglected - Blog Entry27 Jan 2009 01:04 PM Here is my theory. A neglectful parent is less likely to have a good bond with there child b/c that bond would cause them to feel remorse when they neglected there child. I think neglectful parents were probably neglected themselves and don't now how to bond or how that bond is supposed to feel. There are many was to develop a bond with your child and breastfeeding is one of those ways. Like you said, neglect can lead to attachment issues, which just continues on the cycle. I can also see how someone with attachment issues can use breastfeeding to help her learn to bond with her child b/c of the release of the bonding hormone and the closeness you have with the baby. A Day in the Life of a Nurse: The Hours We Keep - Blog Entry22 Jan 2009 07:45 AM I work at a place for people with disabilities. We have shifts 7-3, 3-11, & 11-7 & on the weekends the do 11-11, 11-11. They do the 12hr shifts of the weekends so the 7-3 shift doesn't work weekends (which is me!) Of course I'm not a nurse, my degree is actually in Psychology. If a holiday falls on a day you normally work you then work that holiday. We are pretty good to each other about switching if needed. I primary manage there healthcare (make sure they are getting the care they need, bring them to there dr's, specialist, & psychiatrist t & keep track of it all) Once they need 24 hours nursing care I have to help the families find a nursing home for them. I spend most of my days going from place to place for appointments. And as always LOTS of paperwork! Febrile Seizures and Spinal Taps - Blog Entry20 Jan 2009 06:52 PM A coworker's daughter has febrile seizures. At first it was weekly, then monthly, and now it has been several months since her last one. Her daughter will be 2 on the 25th. Any slight rise in temp brought them on. The first few episodes were scary for her, but she kind of got used to them. She had a hard time finding a sitter willing to take her daughter b/c of the seizures. Her baby never had to have a spinal tap but did spend many nights just being monitored in the hospital. |
