Adventures in Sleep Training (Day 1)

31 Aug 2009 07:08 AM

At five months babies still don't have the concept of a schedule. And they don't know the difference between night and day. Try not to worry so much, he will sleep when he is tired. I found that sleeping habits got worse when she was trying to learn something new like, sitting up, dancing, clapping, crawling, walking, and getting on off her rocking horse.

The proper nursing pillow is helpful for support and positioning. If you need one I would suggest the 'My Best Friend Wearable Nursing Pillow' It straps around and actually stays is the correct position! My boppy pillow always created a hole between my belly and the pillow, it was very frustrating. Next time around I'm getting the 'My Best Friend' My aunt has a preemie and she loved it, she was even able to walk around with the pillow strapped on and nurse her tiny baby.

I also liked my nursing cover, but after about 6 months my baby wouldn't nurse with it. Actually she wouldn't nurse in public b/c she got to distracted! She had to smile at everybody, leaving me exposed:)

It Shouldn't Be This Hard

I have also seen this difference in optimistic vs. pessimistic personalities. My Mother in Law has recently been diagnosed with Lung cancer. Her two boys are prime examples of this. My husband is optimistic and is waiting for all the tests and some of the treatment to even start to worry about it. My Brother in Law is pessimistic and has worried from the beginning and he has some very strong opinions on what his mom should/shouldn't do.

Birth Plan Vs. Reality

03 Aug 2009 09:09 AM

Did my baby's birth go as planned? NO! But I wasn't disappointed. It was a whole combination of things. In my family, most of the women have been unable to have natural childbirth b/c of various reasons. When my mom had me they had to use the forceps and she tore. She had over 200 stitches and landed herself back in the hospital b/c of infection. Her 2nd baby was an emergeny c-section b/c the baby's heart rate had dropped.

When I was pregnant my mom actually asked me when my c-section was scheduled:) Too many things have gone horrible wrong during the birthing process in our family. I have several great uncles that have MR b/c of lack of oxygen. I laughed at her and said I had to at least try & I reminded her that things have changed over the years. Knowing our family history I was going to have my baby in a hospital and I was going to be monitored.

You can read about her birth story here http://forums.families.com/birth-story-of-ellamae-rose,t116255

B/c of complications my baby girl was born by c-section. Blood work indicated she had and infection. So they thought she had caught group B strep and started her on IV antibiotics while they waited for the blood cultures to come back (takes 72 hours!) So for the next 3 days I felt soooooooo guilty for even trying to have her naturally. But everything turned out fine and I have a beautiful girl!

Surprise Babies

My husband's, older brother & wife are expecting! We all couldn't be more excited! But....they didn't want kids  They have been married for 7 years and I had asked them awhile back if they were planning on any kids, they flat out said they did not want any, but....they did mention that things happen and if it did get pregnant they would embrace the new direction life was taking them. They are at the perfect stage in life to have children. She had some health issues in high school that supposedly would have made it difficult to get pregnant and she was also on bc. So I guess this baby was meant to be!

I talked to her last week. She isn't yet in love with the idea. But I let her know that I was terrified and ours wasn't a surprise. At first when I was pregnant everybody was ecstatic even my husband and all I wanted to do was to tell everybody to SHUT UP! Even though I had thought I was ready when it happened I realized I wasn't.

I am so very happy and excited for them! I am having a hard time containing myself! So I have tried not to be too overjoyed around them, but it is hard. They will be wonderful loving parents. And they have a very loving and stable relationship. They are very responsible people. They have been getting more excited about it and they seem to be warming up to the idea of being parents. They have started to prepare the room they are going to make into the nursery! And the baby is not due until the end of February!!!

But I am terrified of the day we have to replace our roof! I also worry about the furnace and water heater too. I think they are going to happen ALL at once b/c that is my luck.
