The Effect of Alcoholism on a Marriage - Blog Entry

06 Jun 2008 08:37 AM

My husband wasn't much of a drinker when he and I first met 8 years ago. We've been married for 5, and within the last 2 years, he has definitely become an alcoholic. I'm at the age where I need to start having children, but I will not even think about having kids with him if he's going to continue to drink. He knows this. I'm waiting for when and if he's going to hit his rock bottom, but I don't forsee that happening for some time because he's in the best physical shape of his life and co-owns a successful company. He thinks everything is great, but doesn't like to hear me nag. We both started seeing our own therapists about 6 months ago, and I'm glad he took the step do that. I haven't seen any improvement, and he refuses AA automatically. I'm contemplating leaving him at this point in time so that I can continue on with my future.
