How Will You Grade Your Students? - Blog Entry

07 Jul 2008 10:16 AM

I grade so students can see how many marks they got and what grade it corresponds to, I never give grades for effort, if you are lax when a student comes to take exams the examiner wont be taking effort into account so I try to stick to standardised marking so they know what exam level they are at. Though I do this, grades to me are really not important, someone getting an A or a D is not important to me at all, for most people what they right down on a piece of paper does not reflect what they know at all.

Is it Okay for a Parent to Encourage Kids to Hit? - Blog Entry

30 Jun 2008 07:30 AM

What ever the circumstance we would never encourage our children to hit anyone, even if they were being bullied and we discovered they had hit someone, they would still be punished. Why do parents tell their children violence doesn't solve anything, then encourage them to be violent.

School's Involvement in Homeschooling: Question Answered - Blog Entry

We allow those who are not students to use our labs, of course we have to have a technician there as the parent cannot be allowed alone in a lab, we have to charge as well as chemicals and such are very expensive and here in the UK schools receive funds by student number, so if you regularly cater for 30 extra students, it mounts up alot. It is all done on our terms, we will not drop anything to allow them access, if what we offer is not convenient for them, they can't use our facilities. Most non-students who use our labs are adults though who are doing further education at home in the evenings so normally it is not a problem, we only have one child that uses the facility.

Abortion: Why I'm Pro-Life - Blog Entry

28 Jun 2008 10:00 AM

I'm not Pro-Life as being Pro-Life would mean that both my mother and sister would be dead. Here we have the NHS so money is spent on abortion, not made. I am very dissappointed that the UK limit remains at 24 weeks though, the won by using the "what if there is something wrong with the mother or fetus" arguement, I like how they ignored that for those reasons you can have an abortion at any time if deemed necessary.

The Basics for Brushing - Blog Entry

25 Jun 2008 01:28 PM

It's physically impossible for me to floss, it seems flossing is a non-UK thing though as no one does it, but we don't have rotten teeth or mass fillings. Though our dentist advised against flossing, but using interdentals, as he said floss just polishes the teeth so you think they are clean.

Saving Money on Prescriptions - Blog Entry

17 Jun 2008 08:32 AM

Here all medication for the 18 and unders is free, all contraception is free. For a prescription is is 7.10/$14.20. But say you need four different tablets, you can have them all on the same prescription. Though I should point out you should only split pills if your doctor has said you can, the majority of tablets leave your body too quickly if they are split or crushed.
