Here one parent recieves 9months of paid maternity leave and their job is kept open while one parent recieves 6 weeks paid maternity leave. But here the government will pay one parent to stay at home until the youngest child is at school. We have the same system for adoption as well unless it is the adoption of a step sibling. Goverment is trying to make maternity leave at least a year at the moment. In other european countries there are two years of maternity leave which can be split up between the parents in anyway they so wish and of course it is paid, the UK is aiming to do this but with only a year. It is also planned to pass a law so babies have to be 10 weeks before they can be dumped into care and before mothers can do back to work. By the end of the year every student is reading, writing and doing maths.
