Do Your Kids Need a Manners Makeover? - Blog Entry

So it is just like finishing school? All the girls in our family attend finishing school, here it is not a camp though, you stay with the local Lady and Lord. In some schools in the UK attending a finishing school is compulsory. Boys here attend etiquette classes as well, they just have that name instead of finishing school. Instead of things like table setting and make-up application, you learn things such as shooting and deer hunting skills.

Our strawberries came through nearly two months ago now, there are a few plants left that are producing some fruit, but it is at the end of the season now.

How Long is Too Long for Kindergarten? - Blog Entry

22 Jun 2009 01:56 PM

That is far too long, our oldest who is five goes to school from 9-3, quite a few schools here do run 7-6 though for parents who choose not to look after their children, even for an older child it is far too long to be in the care of people other than your family.

Train Like a Trooper - Blog Entry

Here you train with your regiment for quite a long time before you take any fitness tests, you don't even need your medical to be completed by then. Here we have the OTC as well where you train for three years before you apply to enter any of the UK forces along side university, or you can train for two years at college before you apply to enter. So most people here have done the fitness test multiple times before they do the one that counts.

When the Gym Teacher Goes Nuts - Blog Entry

I always hated P.E at school, the boys had to play netball complete with the skirt! Sure sometimes your students get on your nerves a little bit or try their best to annoy you, but if you can't handle it appropriately you shouldn't be a teacher. Thankfully at our school a teacher has never been verbally or physically abusive, hope the other students in the lesson will be able to give statements so the correct person is prosecuted.

Who's Teaching Your Child How to Drive? - Blog Entry

A driving instructor, insurance for one year for a 17 year old would be £1,500, so no way are we teaching ours when they are old enough!

No schools in the UK do drivers education.

Do You Leave Your Kids Alone in the Car? - Blog Entry

18 Jun 2009 07:44 AM

Depends Mary Ann though, I don't live in a crime ridden area, so we don't lock our house door, leave our satnav and ipod on the parcel shelf of our car. My old house didn't have a lock on the front door, there has never been a burglary in our village, we don't live in a rough area, so we aren't living among criminals.

Do You Leave Your Kids Alone in the Car? - Blog Entry

We don't leave our children in the car, not because we think its too hot, too cold, or someone else is going to get to them. But they can't be trusted in the car at the age they are, if we put Mike's in the car first and get him strapped in, by the time the other two are in, he is out his seat and pressing buttons and pulling switches.
